November last year ,, it's now June ,, I'd say that would be stretching the complaint period.

I've heard many more complaints regarding gas hot water than any from electric ......, maybe people needc to think about which is actually more economical.

As this all seems to be hearsay, I don't think people should be so quick to pass judgments.

Fair call boss, but I can't see how a quote can cost that much, I charge $150p/h to do what i do and 75c per Km (gonna raise it as the ute is thirsty and fuel is up)

SO for me to drive to Norseman(from Kal)to appraise/list/sell a property is 5 hours (2 there, 1 doing, 2 back) and a 400km round trip.

5 hr =$750
400km=$300
$1050

I get these $ for my time as I make people money.

I understand that these people who "quote" could save you money. But $2000.00 straight off the bat (if that is correct) appears to be extensive. (as you said it is hearsay and i shouldn't judge, but I can't help myself  )

As this is all hearsay, I'll throw in my totally baseless guess about the situation.

I would guess this $2000 fee is actually more like a design fee, to come up with a site specific design for a system. Not simply the fee to come out and say high, I'll sell you a system for Blank amount of $.

Now $2000 seems a little steep to me for a design fee for a backyard aquaponic system because I kinda believe that any backyard system needs to evolve with the owner since they need to learn to handle everything. This is why alot of package Hydroponic systems fail, the owners never really learn how to tend things and they blame the failure on the product (or product seller/manufacturer) rather than on themselves. If we are talking about a design fee for a commercial facility, then it is probably cheap.

My point is that "A friend told me ......" does not equate to facts... And I think theres been some misinterpretations going on, as TCLynx has suggested above.

Been doing a bit of digging around ... and it seems we might have jumped the gun a bit...

If it's who I think BF is referring to ... then the quote isn't so much for an AP system...

But a complete set of designs and plans to client specs for Permaculture/garden design stuff..

Quote:
Sketch Plan
The sketch plan involves developing items discussed during the initial design consultation along with any other client brief requirements, and incorporating them into a presentation drawing. Information includes sector and zone planning, water conservation strategies and technologies, layout of proposed garden elements, as well as soil building and planting suggestions.

These plans are presented in A3 format, and are normally ready for client feedback approximately 4 weeks after the initial consultation.

Client sign-off will be required for the sketch plan prior to commencing work on the detailed plans.

Cost: $2000 + GST

Yep he's well reknown and obviously is leveraging that... but his reputation, name and knowledge is on the line each project.....

and i suspect that people approach him because of both his knowledge and reknown....

probably with fairly large garden systems/areas in mind... and probably with the ability to pay anyway.....

Basically he's quoting a full landscaped, reticulated, self sufficient, water and environmentally friendly permaculture garden...to a point where it's suitable for council approvals etc

Does he refund the quote price if he gets the job?.... dunno..

But the complete design (based on his knowledge and name) could be taken and used by someone unscrupulous... and I reckon there'd be a fair amount of hours go into it...so I reckon charging for a "proprietry" quote is probably fair enough in hindsight.

If it is who i think it is, they are renowned for being expensive, and their target market is rich pretentious ppl, who love to namedrop the person who did all this. I saw a garden done by this person, as i was quoting on the maintenance of it.
It was a good garden, but the whole time i spent there the owner just talked about hoe the landscaper did this and the landscaper did that. If it was not $2000 they would not be exclusive enought for their clients and the brag facor would be gone.

Is the product the landscape design, or the show off value of how much it cost??
