Usually I believe in playing by the rules. But if they are just silly.... welll...
"It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission."

I did all the work on my last system myself. I will be doing all the work on my next system myself. No plumbers. No permits.

I like that.
There was that program on tele last night about a neighbour issue with fast growing trees(they could grow to 30 metres) on the boundary blocking out a million$ view.
I don't cut down or damage trees without very good reason.

I don't like cutting down trees either, but they are introduced species, both are an eyesaw and they could fall down at any time causing property damage. Plus I am using extra electricity to run the booster on the HWS. One of them is home to about a thousand doves though but they are a pest anyway.

Dove pie not quite the same as pidgeon pie.
Ask the council to get the neighbour to sign a release.(accept liability if they do fall down as you would foot the bill for damage repairs, or fight the insurance company)
That might get them on the move.

Wow again, one post and I have a nickname!

I'm going to ring the council and make some enquiries. The greenhouse I'm thinking of would be fairly solid with all new materials and because my dear old dad used to have glasshouses (100m+ long) I keep thinking 4 x 6 isn't very big

I'll let everyone know how I go.

PS eame0002 is my work account so because I hate extra effort I try to use it everywhere (not the same password obviously)

The avatar is from a free avatar site and is called "The deep one" and sort of reminds me of a catfish, although I hope mine (when I get them) won't be quite as feral....splash, aaarrrghhh :?:

If I get the council out here for the AP roof, they'll see the shed, the cubby house, the chook shed....

Finally got around to making the call and got the followinf response from Mitcham Council:

If the structure is less than 10m2 in area, less than 3m in span and 2.5 M high I shouldn't need approval (This is for Hawthorndene/Adelaide SA).

However since I'm thinking of 3x5M I'll probably put in an application (and if they knock it back I'll build two 3 x 3 M :P

Better still just build the two 3 x 3 M up front, using an invisable (non-existent) space between the two.

Hmmm could be just a little embarrasing since I'm one of the main systems admins people for our core systems. Thank god for Linux and home ADSL 8)

TimC,

No real answers but a funny story for you...

I had some friends who had an apartment block, they had someone in front whose tree was in the way of their precious city views... all of those in the apartment block pooled $1000 each (ten units - $10,000!!) and prepared a letter to the people with the tree and offered them the $10K to cut down the tree....

They refused.

The residents of the units gave up.

That weekend we had one of the biggest storms ever in Brisbane, lightening struck the tree and it had to be cut down.

You'd be surprised how big a party you can get for $10K... LOL

Seriously though, if you think their tree is dangerous, you could write them a letter, if no response, call the council...

Or you could offer to go halves in it's removal (if you're feeling rich)?

Depends what it's worth to you... but I'd try the free options first!

Cheers,

GLR
