OBO, it gave Wilmington Delaware--just to the southeast of me, and it happens to be where I am at this very moment. They stock trout in Delaware streams for the fishermen in the Spring, but they are considered an annual fish as I don't think they will make it through the summer. Could be wrong, but we just don't have to cool mountain streams here.

In a greenhouse environment (or sunroom like I have the AP in right now), my temperatures can get pretty warm. When I am ready to go beyond 1 type of fish, I will consult local fish experts.

the fish say their thanks to all of you :)

i too am wondering how are we going to survive this summer, but a few members here gave me courage and the fact that i'm keeping "silver sharks"(witn no problem), they need a lot of O2 in the water, although they'r pretty tough in general(don't bother ph, temp. and hardness swings)

it was also said that trout don't eat at temps higher then 20°C, mine do and they look pretty happy so far, where there is will there's a way and i think AP is just different then ordinary aquariums and fish farms, is more of a "living whole thing"

thank you all for comming

flowah powah :flower: !!

molj, most people find trout (brown trout in oz at least; rainbows might be different) eat very well above 20°C but they start running out of oxygen due to the high metabolism and low dissolved oxygen content.
about 24-25 seems to be that absolute highest temps for brown trout in a backyard system with low stocking rate and plenty of aeration.

make sure you keep your aeration up.

today is just not my day, and a sad day for trout

one of the bad things that happened was that all of my 50 trout died today because of temp issues(water was heated over 30°C), because i didn't/have/take time to install shading nets over the GBs....
i haven't seen them, i just got a phone report, feels bad, as they were the cutest fish ever.....

well, now i'm going either with gold fish or tilapia, or jade perch
the last two are almost unavailable to me in slovenia
anyone tried eating per store bought fish? like goldfish and such?

what about tilapia, do you buy them in pet stores and breed them at home?

i'm really an idiot for killing that trout, hate to rush things and end up like this sometimes

Don't feel bad ,, mistakes are how people learn.
If you can get Tilapia ,, they are good because they are very strong and it takes a BIG mistake to kill them.

Sorry molj!
Keep track of your water temps, and when it cools below 20°C consistently you can get some more trout and grow them through until the start of next may without worrying about them dying. Then either harvest them or put them back in deep water where they can stay cool enough.

Tilapia and jade perch will be the opposite problem, they don't like cold water. Goldfish will go all year.

Are there any other local fish that people eat?
Apparently some countries eat goldfish, but don't eat store-bought because of chemicals. They can be bred will a bit of work.

Sorry to hear that molj. :( What about carp, do they eat them in your part of Europe? I heard people eat them at Christmas. What do people catch in the ponds around there?

hey there

was a little depressed from killing all those fish but i got over it and i located a carp breeder

can't get tilapia or jade perch, have a few other fish, carps mostly
Carassius auratus gibelio is one of them
here is the list of known warmwater fish at us

did any of you eat carps? i heard that they have a lot of grease, but don't know for AP carps:)

i'll probably add more carps since i already have 10 gold fish in my system(still alive)

i'll look some more into it, thank you for your moral support i appriciate it:)

I checked your link to warm water species available ,, may i suggest you get many of the one in the blue bikini , we call them sexy:)
I personally do not like carp very much ,, but other people say it is good.
My suggestion , grow the fish you have eaten before and like the taste of it.

Meanwhile ,, can you check ,if it is legal ,to export those blue bikini fish to Australia.

Sorry about your trout molj.

Have you thought about catfish?

OR you could add heat and bubbles to your tank (spa) and add the blue bikini ones  all you have to feed them is champagne and strawberries and they should reproduce well
