Im not a huge fan of cauliflower - but I will share a great recipie with you.

Take one couliflower and steam it untill tender. Put it in a blender with a 2 cloves of garlic (crushed) and half a tub of low fat philidelphia cheese (100g approx) and blend untill smooth. We call it notatoes

I'd call it GROUT

Steem, I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as you wash the veggies b4 consumption, If the veggies were just in the ground they would attract a certain amount of bird s@#t and other animal waste (let's face it if you have a dog chances are they watered the veggie patch for you too  )

LKB, we call them mudlarks here or swamp magpies

As someone running a duck "powered" system, I know about ducks and and their handy nature to remove possible mammalian parasites and snail vectors through some rather good design features.
While my system does run with a higher potential for bacterial/parasite problems than a fish only system it does not involve birds crapping on my plants which is one high risk bacterial problem to consider in itself, also given the birds you speak of the research you would wish to know regarding common human/honeyeater and vector parasites etc may not yet exist....whereas in my case ducks are quite well studied.

Also my fish will most likely be research/pet food for a "risk analysis" safety period of time.
Also all the ducks I process have their entrails examined, this may be more difficult with cute adorable little honey eaters.
