Quinoa is awesome, but is very difficult to grow due to needing the weather of very high mountains. This is the major hurdle to overcome before it can become a worldwide staple.

I feel a quinoa v sweet leaf v moringa wunderplant shootout
coming on :blackeye:

seriously though, what's the catch? If leafy plants with nutritious leaves really exist, why doesn't everybody grow them? Are they slower growing than other leafy greens? Otherwise i'd expect to see the leaves for sale in shops, every second hedge being moringa etc...

sorry for the hijack DDM

AHH,,,you really need to travel a bit , it certainly opened my eyes and mademe realise how littleI knewof other people's way of life.

They don't have that many meat pies in outback Asia/India.

Moringa, which will win this contest EASILY,,is grown by the MILLIONS of tons every year.Is available,,in fact common,in markets serving hundreds of millions of people.
But Coles and Woolies don't stock it :o

obesity is wonderful , let them eat , once all the world economies collapse and we all turn into cannibals there'll be more for me to graze on ! easier to catch too

hehe . I sit down for the evening meal , but dont eat breakfast or lunch often , just nibble things while I work . not that Im a vegetarian , but Ive been heavily cutting down on red meat , only so that when I get to eat it I can appreciate its full awesomeness

Boris01,,Humans are classified as red-meat,,,just like pork,,great crackling and best with Aplle sauce.
So you better keep up a regular red-meat dietto prepareyourself for"the hunt"

Everything I have read indicates that our diet is way more than we need. I seems to me that 400+ pounds of red meat and 360 pounds of tilapia per year should be all the meat 4 people should require per year. That would be .5 pounds of meat per person per day. Combined with eggs and a variety of plants should be a complete nutrition. That being the case, then I do not need to quadruple the size of my AP system as I was planing and can now focus on a breading program and solar energy! We have no problem eating in season veggies and fruits and eating simple meals; we already do.

I do not have a lot of land. However, deter cows only require .5 acres of good grass per cow and do not require any grain feed input. I only need to feed 3 cows at a time; thus 1.5 acres of grass. I do have plenty of land for that.

half an acre , on just grass, seems an under estimate in my opinion .
Add some legumes ,, such as laplap and growing fences such as Leauciana and , dare i say Moringa and yes you can accomplish this easily.
In Australia ,, many years ago ,, the normal building block was a quarter acre ,, this amount was chosen as at the time it was considered enough space to grow a subsistance living. Well the average size is now 1/15th of an acre and shrinking fast.
I'm working here on about 1/10th of an acre and with AP I think I can do it except for red meat ( my children look tasty ,, but I just can't imagine harvesting them ....., but the wife???)

I grow about 25% of our fruit and veg needs in the dirt garden at the moment ,, my application has been placed into council for permission to have 3 chickens and 5 Quail.

Your plan on eating less is good ,, but ensure you have a huge variety ,, a small Quail set up aonly takes a few square metres ( yards) and supplies eggs and a very tasty chicken alternative.

I'm rambling ,, apologies.

Nah, folks will be looking for well-marbled tender meat, not some tough, lean stuff. I'm safe! At least until after the bulk of Americans. :)
Of course, they might (will!) want my chickens! Forget that!
