If I make an appointment and go to a passport agency, I could have my passport available withing two weeks from the appointment date. I don't know if that is too long a time for you. But you already know that I am willing to go- I would love to see the desert green and know that I was a part of that.

I have to get a passport first, but I am willing to go. Can you give us a length of time away? I have to plan this sort of thing. However, I think others would be a better choice than me. When its time to build then...

I found a good website for Qatar social customs- those of us who are chosen should read up on it. It may save you from making a fool of yourself or worse, that of your host.

I know there hasn't been much activity on this site for a while but I have been busy thinking about the Sierre Leon situation. Since it looks like energy will come from animal or human power, I have thought of a design that will require the minimum of energy input. I am looking forward to input from the rest of you.
What if we design a diasy chain system- fish tank, growbed, fish tank, grow bed, sump, pump back to first fish tank. It would require only filling the first tank and allowing the water to flow naturally to the remaining part of the system. I made a simple sketch for illistration purposes only- a real system would be side-by-side for ease of maintenance and smaller footprint.
On gently sloping terrain, we could use cascading and on level terrain, we could use the CLIFTPIS design. If there was running water or a catchment, we wouldn't need to pump at all and the runoff could be used for irrigation.

Interesting idea there. Perhaps if there were a large enough tank to use as a header tank and sump tank, that could slowly drain into the first fish tank, then manual/animal/wind/etc power would be adequate. I know that perhaps such a method pf pumping might not allow enough flow/aeration for really high stocking densities but I still think it would be appropriate for many situations.

Make sure you use a ez-pump http://www.dbestpump.com/

They move more water per hand turn than any other pump! I saw a video (cant find the url) where a guy in India was irrigating an entire field with one of these. It was connected to an old bike frame for peddle drive.

Another rope pump

these are made from cheap replaceable/maintainable parts, which means they can be built by locals from local materials.
