Here are some pictures of a system thats been built out on a station near Newman in the north of W.A.

Stocked with silver perch, the plants are starting to grow well and they hope to supplement a lot of their vegetables, because it's a long trip into town and all their vegetable get trucked in from many many miles away.

Chalk up another for Backyard Aquaponics Joel..... nice...

Any particular reason for the return pipe to the fish tank being up so high?

Not to sure Rupe, I think it's a bit of a hybrid from reading my book and following that, but using new gear.

They're probably fine, however they look scary small, and definitely not over-engineered enough for the warm and fuzzies we like...

Those beds are 1000kg max (600 litres I think) that's with a large fudge factor... 40mm uprights should handle downward force... I'd be worried about bowing in the laterals, and due to the height, swaying of the verticals...

but as I said they're probably fine, just not 'warm and fuzzy' :-D

I was thinking that leaning on the ends would be a bad idea :!:

i agree with OBO, leaning on the ends could tip them over.

KP i estemated 750kg per gb if filled with saturated gravel. no calculation just "yeah bout that"

750kg or 1000kg is irrelevant, you dont want one to fall on you

Think triangles,..... probably best to braced from end of verticals down to bottom of legs .

Any alternative , don'tebevenhave to weld, would be a triangularflat plate at the leg/horizontal connection, rivetted on.

looks like hydroclay guys, so take off a few kilo's  but yeah, not sure why the stands would have been made like that :?

say the beds weigh 1000 kg look where the legs are 3/4 of the way along witch means theres 750 kg one way from that leg and 250 kg the other you would need 500 kg to tip it ! come on you blokes [leaning on it will tip it ]

It will strengthen the unit very much , negating the worry that was raised???

Maybe i explained it badly .....,, TT <this shape is inherently unstable , cross braced or triangular bracing would add huge amounts of strength especially in the horizontal plane.
