Whats the price difference with just automotive batteries TC? I feel that we dont usually require the benefits that an expensive deep cycle battery has.

My 90Ah Landcruiser size batteries (N70ZZ) are only OZ$140 each.

Consider one of these and a 12V bilge pump with a venturi to add air - it will save you the cost of an inverter and give plenty more air than a 12V air pump:

TC.... Some of the local Sam's Clubs have a 6 volt golf cart battery. It's 6v at around 200 AH. Priced around $65 last time I looked. So... $130ish for 12v 200 AH battery (deep cycle) system. (There is that membership thing too :( )

This is one the of batteries many of the off grid types are using. I was going to get a set to power my system.... but I haven't made it that far. You can do it first and tell me how it works. :D

Where is that edit button? I spell check after posting.

Guy's AND gal's why buy silk when a sow's ear will do.
Seriously we are talking a battery that is going to be used very irregularly and then only needs to supply 4 odd amps.
I have little knowledge of the US market , but i know here in Aus I could get a suitable battery and charger for less than $90 , and a suitable battery and Solar panel for less than $130.

Because .... once TC gets going .... She won't stop.... and the sow's ear won't be enough. The whole system will be green and it'll be bigger... and require more juice... with deep cycle capabilities.

She'll be posting pics of the new Solar Panels she put up in the morning... with the sun tracking device she made with an Altoid can , 2 leds and Steve's paper clip . It was just a couple months ago that there was this little blue barrel thing in her yard. It's like that energizer bunny thing down there in Florida.

Might as well start her big.... as she's going there anyway. :D

LOL

The cook already has his heart set on a big tall tower for a wind turbine  I just keep reminding him that our property isn't big enough for a tower.

Now if I had a spare car battery sitting around, I might be working with it, but since I don't, I'm gonna look for a deep cycle marine battery that could give me more than 8 hours of backup (lets face it, If we are out of town when the HSM happens and the backup kicks in, those poor fish may only have what is in the battery to save them.) We don't yet have a fish sitter lined up.

CHEERS TC ,, go for it ,, best is best , I love the thinking. If ya gonna build somtin build it right first time.

When enquiring about the battery ,, make sure you stipulate that it will not be needed often but you want it to supply 4 amps for a long period of time. The battery experts will know 10 times more than me about what is the best. AHH , also say you want to trickle charge with a Solar panel ....., if that's the way you chhose.
