Thats pretty cool (or hot!) wonder if it would work for our use? Wonder how quich the sun would heat a small flow of water through a coil? Might be better to use a welded container something like this and paint it black? Then just run a vers small flow through it. Could you use raw fish water - if the pipes were big enough to avoid blockages? Perhaps the high heat would kill bacteria which would not be ideal?

Would have to be a stainless container....starting to think from other threads that maybe solar cant provide enough heat...

I think that solar is not at all cheap. To be effective you have to store your heat. If using water then you can store 1 btu per pound of water per degree. So how many btu's would a person need to keep their system warm all night? You would have t o heat salt or water during the day and keep it insulated then you need a second part if the system to exchange store heat with the fish tanks.

Dollar for dollar I am leaning towards a wood or rubbish fired water heater

Most ideally a wood gas a producer setup would burn wood very efficiently or a wood pellet stove that turns off when the correct temperature has been reached.

I wish I could - but not sure I could start a fire in the backyard of my little town house. I think the land lord might have something to say about it!
