Hope this is where I start my hello's to everyone  . Have been reading this forum for the last year and a half or so and want to join in the fun. (And learn more about ap of course!) I am starting a little system in a small greenhouse soon, and with the help of all the gurus here would like to expand the dream further. I once read that this is totally addictive - I know that for a fact because I was hooked from the get-go!
I started a blog about my adventures - no laughing, please! I'm such a beginner  .
Thanks for the opportunity to meet all of you!
Rhonda - the aquaponics dreamer

Welcome Rhonda!!!

Your dream greenhouse truly kicks butt. The growbed stands look plenty sturdy - is that where you plan to keep them it looks like you'd not be able to reach all the plants.

Have you tried Google Sketchup? You can plan your tanks/beds/sump layout with it.

What kind of fish?

Thanks for the welcome, Dave!
The growbeds are not yet finished, and they are not to stay where they are - the skin on the big greenhouse has to be put on and I didn't want anything permanent until that was done so the scaffolding and such can be moved around. The layout has been in my head for over a year now, like I said, I've been reading all the great stuff in this forum and have been taking notes from other places, I have notebooks full of information - Now if I could only get to use it!
I want to raise tilapia - that's my goal, anyway. The little greenhouse will have goldfish in it this weekend - and strawberry plants. I know I can grow goldfish and bream, I've had an outside pond since we moved here and have grown lots of big goldfish - the blue herons like to eat them, though! - and lots of water plants. So I know the concept is a valid one, and I'm going to try to keep up with the blog about my success. I will have a LOT of questions, I am sure!
Rhonda

Welcome!!!!!!!

Nice greenhouse! Perhaps you should put a link to your blog in your signature so it will be easier for people to check out your progress without having to go to your profile! Or you can make a system thread for yourself in Member systems and post progress there and use image links from the other site to have the pictures show up right here!

:D
Glad to have you finally chime in!

Banjo's ,, ahh the south ,, dueling banjo's . Was a joke , no offence meant.
AHHH Tilapia ,, talk to me ,, I have a farm in Thailand , grow Tilapia by the ton , actually 10 or more ton a year.
Great fish , tough , eat near anything , grow fast and taste GREAT ,, especially slashed/scored and plastered with a chilli / garlic leman juice mixture and the BBBQ'ed.

Unfortunately they are BANNED in Australia ,, so I have 6 months wait between Tilapia meals .
Tilapia are called Bla Nin , in Thai language ,, first Tilapia in Thailand was back in 50's ,, gift from Emperor of Japan to the King of Thailand.

Forgive me, Chappo, I'm a little slow on the uptake - I get it! Deliverance -
I'm not a native Arkie - Native American from Oklahoma by birth, so I don't know how to play the banjo :geek: ! My hubbie, on the other hand....that's his neck of the woods! And no offense taken!
I did not realize the ban on tilapia - missed that in my reading, I suppose - here (Arkansas) you just need to get a permit and check up from Game and Fish Comm. I like mine with lemon pepper, seared in butter, but I've never had any that I didn't like - it's always tender, flaky, and not too fishy tasting.

Thanks for the welcome, TC! I'm a complete noob with the blog thing, so it's gonna' get better, at least I hope. The weather has been trying to break, so we can get some more done soon. I'm sure I'll have many questions when the actual tank and growbed set-up starts in the big greenhouse. We have been dreaming for quite a while now, and our best friend's a plumber and he wants a system, too, so we have it pretty well worked out how to set it up. But there's always surprises!
