Don't forget to take some pics of those Silver Perch before you put them in the tank tomorrow Skygazer

Oh and don't forget to check your water temp and acclimatise your fish.... John's dams are probably getting quite cold by now....

Rupe,

Desperately wanted to take some pics but I was so stressed about getting them organised / acclimatised I forgot :?

I got 12 silvers inthe end and they are MASSIVE I would say between 25-35cm each. Cost me $50 for the 12. John was a really nice guy too. I was not exepcting them to be so big and I only had a 30L esky with me and they nearly touched side to side.

When i got there John took me to one of the Dams with a silvers in a large cage. He said there were not many left in there and we would see how we go with the cast net. Took us about 20 mins to catch the 12 with me spalshing at one end and John using the cast net at the other.

John put some clove oil in the transport tub (aka esky ) and I had a battery air pump with me. Now 12 Silvers that large in an esky it not much space so I got home asap (approx 25 min trip).

Now I really need to get the second grow bed organised (will do next couple of days). will have to keep a keen eye on Ammonia / Nitrite. My ph is about 7.6-7.8 so its a bit of a worry.

Hahah.

Part of the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) was that the system had to BLEND in. Hence the IBC with wood slats "WAX wood" brand timber - no CCA, has hinged lid that is locked to keep kiddie's safe. Painted the bottom of bath tubs brown and created slats beneath bath tub to hide the obvious use of a bath there. Sump is under the stairs. Pump line goes from IBC up under the deck (see blue tube - will be replace with pressure pipe when new -bigger pump arrives).

Fish seem to be going ok. Had some signs of additional ammonia 0.25 and now additional nitrite 0.25 as the bacteria catch up the huge increase in load. Fish have only been fed a tablespoon on Wednesday (picked up additional silvers last saturday), and will not feed again until coming Saturday. Water temps about 15C in the morning and 18c in the afternoon.

You may lose a bit of volume with this idea......
How about just putting the concrete in the bottom of the sump bin.

One of these engineers could surely calculate how much concrete you would need to offset the bouyancy of a rain. Or if leaking is an issue than the concrete would seal the holes. But be careful about putting fish in with new concrete it may leach some nasties until properly cured.

maybe this will help.

jdphish,

The concrete is not going into the bin. I have attached brackets to the outside of the bin, and the concrete will go around the bin and the brakets will be within the concrete to keep the bin down.

Will take some pics on the weekend to show the brakets.

Part of the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) was ..........,

See what we have to do to stay married !!! :D

Love the pic ,, will show my boss / wife.
What did she say last week .....,??? Oh yes ,, there is no way she is having a fish pond in her back-yard. Me being the SNAG , greenie that I am ,, said ,, Well it ain't YOUR yard and if you choose to moove out , thats fine. NOT SMART , one day i must learn to be less honest:)
A lockable mesh cover and nice wood surrounds ( similair to pic ) may indeed be a peaceful compromise :boxing: :director: :evil5:

Just had a hsm.

Sump pump has just died. 400W 7500lph pump, purchased on ebay from ozintersales like this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/400W-Submersible ... dZViewItem
I purchased in December last year so only lasted 6 months.

So I urgently need a replacement that will be a bit more reliable.
Needs to have inbuilt float switch. Will reside in my wheelie bin sump.

Can somone recommend one FAST as I need to buy NOW. If possible under $200.

so I have no water going through grow beds and have stopped feeding fish. I have airstones 24hrs in the tank (IBC) with a large aquarium spong filter (been in for 3 weeks) attached to assist with some ammonia - nitrite - nitrate conversion whilst grow beds are offline.

thanks.

Have you got a small pond pump..... all you'd need temporarily to pump around the growbeds....

Or just pump it up and through a tub/crate/barrel for some filtration.... at worst just back to the tank for aeration...

Don't worry about feeding the fish.... probably not eating much at the moment anyway....

Could spare you a little 24w 1400l/h pond pump for a week or so if you organise your mate to pick it up....

Or you could pick one up from here .... http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/subm ... _pumps.php

They post fairly quick... one I've got is the JHQ-2000... use them for my hydro.... but I think Les uses them to pump from his sump to tank....
