could the high PH of the live rock contribute to the high PH needed to grow spurlina? once the live rock's PH is lowered they can be replaced with new ones and the old ones can be put into a seperate system with say "prawns" to grow algae on them. it all sounds pretty simple no matter how complex it is, would this method work to grow both spurlina and the liverock algae?

Pav and Iso eh? sounds too familiar- I work at an oyster hatchery in S.A. and we grow around 10,000 litres per day of the stuff.

I've been interested in saltwater aquaponics for a while esp seaweeds (on a commercial scale). There's some interesting stuff going on in Israel- incorporating abalone, fish and red seaweeds.
