These health problems are linked to a tiny protein fragment that is formed when we digest A1 beta-casein, a milk protein produced by many cows in New Zealand, Australia and other western countries. Milk that contains A1 beta-casein is commonly known as A1 milk, whereas milk that does not is called A2.

Funny you should bring that up. A friend of mine has a ranch and was just addressing that very issue. They are changing over to a smaller more natural cow that produced A2 milk and can fatten/finish on just grass. Seems that the cows we know today were bread in the past for size and for work as well as more meat. This lead to the A1 problem.

As to powdery mildew, am seeing it on some of my strawberries so I am going to try the milk thing. Is there anything else that needs to be added to the milk?

It's not a new story... and I'm not passing a judgement one way or another....

http://www.abc.net.au/landline/content/ ... 702999.htm

http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/content/ ... efault.htm

But the A1 and A2 (and other forms) of the casein protein are actual facts... and have been known for years ...

http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/policy-law/pro ... report.pdf

As to the benefits of milk.... well I grow up on a farm (all Jersey cows ) drinking milk straight from the vat... and drank probably 2ltr+ per day....

Hardly ever been sick in my life..... milk from a cartoon from the supermaket....pheeew... reconstitutes garbage with all the natural goodies probably nuked from it anyway....

And probably half permeate anyway..... and the rest is probably closer to whey.

Was just a thought raised after the story the other nite and a thread about "milk"

okay jaymie lol...I think yates dipel might have a weak
surfactant in it, probably to aid wetting. I noticed some foaming when I
sprayed the excess into a container. 9 litres washed into the fish tank could
cause problems for the fish.

On topic.... This highlights the need for an 'organic' pest list with dosing/usage table.
Words of caution with it's use would also be good.

I have been looking at what setup design would be to have a controlled system for testing all the different 'organic sprays' etc.

Too much milk protien is a no-no and it will now be contaminating the whole system. Water change and UV sterilizing might help plus a little salt to help the fish in this time of stress, 3-5ppt. Add extra aeration.

here's an interesting fact, humans are the only animal to consume milk (and that of another species no less) after weaning...................

There are other animals that will consume milk after weaning from another species, however it is usually a human that gives it to them. Then again, there are many strange things that humans do.

As to the use of milk as a organic cure for powdery mildew and it's safety for fish. And the question of using powdered milk for the purpose. Perhaps test it small scale maybe on a plant no in the AP system. Perhaps get a small amount of regular milk and try that on one plant and use powdered milk on another suffering the same problem. If the powdered milk works, then perhaps test a small amount for the AP plants but avoiding excessive runoff? I expect that I'll have to treat Powdery mildew soon enough since I've got lots of cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and pumpkins growing (all but the cucs are in the dirt gardens.)

Perhaps I'll run some tests soon.

I've just started a test between using powdered milk and fresh milk. Granted it is not a perfect test as I have only nonfat dry milk on hand to test with and the fresh milk I got to test with is whole milk. I have a bed with pumpkin plants growing and some of them have started exhibiting signs of powdery mildew. The plants on the South end of the bed got sprayed with 1 part whole milk mixed with one part water. The plants on the North end of the bed got sprayed with about one cup milk powder mixed with 44 oz water.

If the dry milk works, that is what I'm likely to use in the future. If there is a difference is how the two milks work for this purpose, I might have to run other tests to see if it is the fat that makes the difference or the freshness.

I believe in the battle against powdery mildew, what makes the difference is that the milk promotes the grow of bacteria that will wipe out the mildew. I think it is possible to use cornmeal for this purpose and I've even seed worm tea marketed for it too. I've heard of some other uses of milk that require using full strength whole milk but I think that is against actual bugs, not powdery mildew.
