how can you tell that, J?

they look the same as the ones on aqua blue (exactly) and they are meant to be Velesunio ambiguous

hmmm, cousins, hmmm, it depends if they are rounder more than oval and how strong the hinge is. Velesunio sp. is smaller too.

hmmm

well I don't care what they are, they live happily in still water, and sound ideal, is only two pages on google about this species we are talking about, (is easier to say that, coz, my Latin is crap  ) and Neil at aqua Blue seems switched on, but he has had them in his tanks and ponds for a few years

photos aren't the best way to identify them, hands on is best, having a good look at all the features.

I will admit I didn't see the ID in the photo earlier, my ID was based on the picture and my information here.

Remember, if it is V. ambiguus it is smaller than 150mm, only about 80mm

Hope you dropped my name steve, even if you didn't get all info from me
For small amounts, mine was 25 mussels, they come in a parcel 32cm x 18cm x 18 cm, parcel weighs about 1.5kg, put cubed is heavier so visit http://www1.auspost.com.au/pac/aus_parcel.asp and enter your postcode, and aqua blues postcode (2324) enter the above measurements and hit calculate and prices will come up, to here was about 5 days, and $9.90 but could get here quicker for $47.90, mussels are good for 7 - 10 days so Aussie Post is probably the go, I have gone air freight, have good rate through work for about $30 but want to get them in, and freight to WA can be slower than 5 days by road because I am 200 k's from Perth, will post pics when they arrive

forgive me BYAP'rs for it has been some time since my last post

I have found freshwater mussels at "Lake" Eildon that were a good 5 metres out of the water living in mud and still alive. I don't think (but can't say for sure) that they would have any trouble in a growbed.

When you look at the ocean going variety they spent periods of time out of the water but they also have flowing water going past carrying food. If you were planting in a growbed then they would have to have some water depth to feed in I am guessing.
