We have been in our home for 12 months now and while the experiment with the goldfish pond is only in its early stages so far, I have been busy preparing the back garden for the BYAP I plan to make. We removed 5 climbing roses (very old variety, double blooms) and around 15 non-climbing roses.

While I do not have detailed plans yet, I have decided to use 1/2 blue drums as grow beds. I plan to have a row of them around the back garden, and have blocks of 4, half drums coming out from the row, to maximise grow bed space while still allowing access to plant, maintain and harvest the crops.

Here are some photos of the space available.

Here are a couple of photos of the dams on our property.
The first is our main dam, which was supposed to be a permanent feature "NEVER DRIES OUT", which had cracks in the silt at least 450mm deep in April this year. The water remains cloudy and I believe that this is due to the continuous flow of water through the dam, due to the underground flows.
It would be suitable for a winter harvest of trout, but would not be reliable enough for a summer harvest.

The second photo is of the smaller dam, which only receives water by rainfall. It is dry all summer. I do not plan to stock this dam.

I don't know what has happened to the posts and pix I had posted in this thread, but they are no longer here.?

I came back to post a report on our de-stocking of the Tilapia in the 5KL FT and the stocking of that tank with 100 Rainbow Trout.
After 2 days, Ammonia is increasing rapidly, Nitrites increasing, Nitrates increasing.
I have stopped feeding to help stabilise them.

Daily nutrient checks for a while now to monitor them.
Additional GBs need to be made and plumbed in

I will locate the photos I had posted before to show the development of the BYAP area.

Tony
