Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has or has considered adding fresh water snails into their fish tanks. They could help with algae control and eat any excess foods on the bottom. If you get a population explosion I sure you could just break some shells and feed them to the fish.

What species may work in temp range 10c-28c

I have snails in my bio filter and growing tubes, they dont last long in the tank, bluegill eat them shell and all.

Most of the species will survive at those temps.
Melanoids (pointy shaped) live in the gravel of aquariums
Physea, Planorbis, Limnea are good species for fish tanks and breed well.
Don't buy the big yellow ones, they are much more fragile than the others.

I have Japanese Trapdoor snails in my outdoor goldfish pond. They clean up a bit of the algae, survive the winters, and don't overpopulate the pond. I think the goldfish may eat the small snails.
