gambs were about as useful with mossies as the cane toads were with the whatever they were meant to control.................. and they nip native fish fins.

DON is right, DPI will crucify you if they catch you. same regs as for carp

As long as they don't find the meth lab in the basement, I'll be right :P

It's all good, the 'evidence' was eaten by the other fish within 24 hours... it was a blood bath! Not worth the time, I'll just stick to barra 2 pellets ;)

The thing is, pacific blue eyes and rainbows, as well as fry of other native species are just as good at eating mosquito as gambusia are. Find a creek without gambusia and you usually find a larger variety of species.
I have friends in America who keep all sorts of gambusia species and love them to bits. But bringing them to Australia was a mistake. At certain times of the year some water ways around here practically boil with them. Seriously massive populations, if they didn't eat the eggs/fins/fry of the predator fish, then maybe they wouldn't be such a bad thing. But they do.
When you work in a pet shop you often have a lot of people come in and try to sell them to you. Had some varied reactions to me informing them that not only can they not sell them, transport them or keep them but merely being in possesion of them is a crime.

It must be an exciting life being an undercover cop for the DPI.... I wonder if they get to say "Your nicked' when they bust people?

I would be interested in how well fish keepers take it when they kill their fish.....
I mean fair enough, there are rules and laws.
but... its just not cool when someone kills ya fish.
Ya don't mess with another mans car, lawn or fish.
Sure its not gonna generate the same effect as messing with his family, country or religeon.... but it is still gonna be emotional.
:blackeye:
Anyways I didn't want to sound like der netkop, but ya... its all about problem prevention. Ya dont want trouble from disease or the gov and gambusia can give ya both.

i hear what you're saying, but ultimately there are rules. i break rules occasionally, but am accepting of the punishment when and if caught.

once exception the the watering rules. i KNOW i'm using less water than i am allowed, i kNOW my AP is saving water over my right to water a dirt garden two mornings.
