This is a picture of the fish room which includes a 1500 L tank with 3 biofilters, 2 fish tanks and a testing area.

peno, I don't think u said where the 1500 lt grow bed will be located. Why will it only be filled to 800lt? If u can utilize the whole volume, and can build an rsg filter to offgas nitrates, u just might get away with water top ups due to plant transpiration, i.e. no water changes as such.
If u don't have much in the way of plants apart from that tomato, u will be changing out water very regularly. I hope u have an external garden bed onsite for this. Otherwise it seems a luxury these days just to run that water to waste.
Have you applied for water conservation grants? The government has money for these things now, which is good.

Hi all

I have made a display flood and drain system using a bell siphon so i can show student how it works. I have also setup an LED light experiment to see how effective LED lights grow plants. I know i should have more than one sample and should also have a control but i only have the one LED light. I hope to get some more lights when we can afford it. I just want to see how effective they are before i buy any more. I plan to turn the other 1500L tank into a grow bed soon.

Experiment

I will measure height once a week and also take a photo and post onto this thread.
The room is a constant 26 degrees C
The LED light is on 16 hrs per day and off for 8 hrs.
The tomato plant has been transplanted from my garden
The photo of the tomato plant is 3 days after the transplant
The LED light is 13.8 watts and has 160 red LED and 60 blue LED.

Hi Peno, when I had my Nano Reef, I was looking into LED lighting for that. People were having great success keeping all sorts og corals and I would have thought they were more exact in their needs than plants. I see the biggest delima being the need for large reflectors of sorts to spread the light source around..... Rob @Aquagold.

Wow very nice information provided here regarding the aquaponics in the school. The images here are showing what hardwork it would have taken and inspires me a lot to do the same.
