See, that's what I mean..... I just thought that was so left-handers didn't feel discriminated against ....

I have heard of similar things recently. There is such a thing as Pi water as one form of reference. I have also been told and I have a machine sitting here at the moment that can ?? change our water. Eddy (dear husband ) says it acts like a catalitic converter. I have also seen photos of water that has been talked to nicely, lovingly and nastily and they have different crystal formations. Some of these water technologies have been sold to farmers as they are convinced that it makes the water work more effectively and results have proven it? I think it is an energy thing! If you believe it you are more likely to see it.

Yep, I was looking at a website a few weeks ago that was all about making 'magnetic water'. I think they called it mu-water! (Sounds good and scientific if you stick a greek letter in there!) What did it for me was the 'scientific' explanation suddenly included a description of a 'bluish' entity (described as a small man) that leapt out of the water container and ran across the room. This was explained as evidence that the mu-water was acting as a conduit to another dimension.

Sounds credible.

Hey timC, not getting into it one way or another, but compounds can certainly have different forms with the exact same chemical formula.

isomers are really interesting

in vit. C another isomer is useless, and the reason thalidomide causes defects is because they could not isolate one isomer. one help with nausea the other does the bad thing. exactly the same formula.

isobutane has completely different boiling points and latent heats from butane.

We are talking about water here... It does not have any isomers which are not geometrically symmetrical. The bonds acting between the hydrogen and oxygen are the strongest. There is a secondary force which exists between the two hydrogen atoms. That is why the water molecule exists in a bent structure with an exact 104.45 degree angle.

Water molecules do have a net dipole movement which causes a very small attraction force between the oxygen of one molecule and the hydrogens of another. This is the cause of surface tension.

EDIT: It is possible to get isomers of water IF either you had a nuclear reactor or the water was formed using isotopes of oxygen or hydrogen. Isotopes of hydrogen are very rare in nature, unless you have a H Bomb...

If Heavy water is water which contains a higher proportion than normal of the isotope deuterium, as deuterium oxide, D2O or ²H2O....

And Deuterium, also called heavy hydrogen, is a stable isotope of hydrogen with a natural abundance in the oceans of Earth of approximately one atom in 6500 of hydrogen.....

Then isn't "heavy water" an isotope of water.....

Sort of. the Heavy water molecules that contain deuterium have different chemical and physical properties. If heavy water was still classified as water it could be considered a isomer because its physical properties are different.

But because it is considered to be a substance on its own then it isn't considered to be either a isomer or an isotope. (IUPAC name: Deuterium oxide)

It has a higher freezing point than water, a higher boiling point and has a much higher density.

I believe that there is something to the magnetic water stuff -- sure there are snake oil salesmen in every field -- but I've done a lot of research on it and I have even done some experiments with plants that indicate that it actually makes a difference.

And actually the pyramid might make a difference too. I read a book called paramagnetism that described (among other things) a way to sharpen razor blades by storing them overnight in a cardboard pyramid. Some guy got a patent on the device. Water "treated" with a pyramid exhibits some of the same effects as magnet treated water.

If you're interested, look into eloptic energy, memory of water, and homeopathics. I think the phenomena observed with magnetized water may be linked to homeopathics. (dilute in water, shake, dilute in more water, shake, dilute, etc. until the final medicine is pure water with only the memory of the original substance)

Admittedly, much of this is "quack" science or at least fringe science. But I figure that every significant scientific discovery was once on the fringe. The world is round....you know....

what about what else is in the water?

that whole show on todaytonight didn't once mention any kind of real science, just that "magnets make things better" line of thinking.
In all likelyhood the positive effects come from the farmers paying more attention to the fields the so called magnetic water is being pumped on to.

Our ordinary drinking water, by contrast, is never chemically pure, especially if it has been in contact with sediments. Groundwaters (from springs or wells) always contain ions of calcium and magnesium, and often iron and manganese as well; the positive charges of these ions are balanced by the negative ions carbonate/bicarbonate, and occasionally some chloride and sulfate. Groundwaters in some regions contain unacceptably high concentrations of naturally-occuring toxic elements such as selenium and arsenic.

That is how a placebo works ems... The more you believe in something and the more you hope it is going to work, makes the placebo seem like it has worked...

A cardboard pyramid is nothing but a shape made out of ordinary materials, there is no way a razor blade can sharpen itself. The same way water cannot get any 'wetter' by just applying a magnetic field...

It all goes against the laws of physics and chemistry.

Most of it... which part are you talking about...?

Obviously magnets will have an effect on metal or ferro-magnetic contaminants in the water... Like iron for example.

But the report said that the magnets alter the shape of the WATER molecules themselves, making them wetter... Which is impossible...
