Well it was all looking good, that is until I saw a Cabbage Moth fluttering around the grow bed a couple of days ago
The some holes in the Broccoli and Cauliflower seedlings started appearing.
Closer examination reveals these little critters munching away on my plants, but there is justice.
If you peel them off gradually (and I got 12 today), just toss them into the water, Silvers love them.
Now thats biodiversity in action. HeeHee
cheers
Rodney

The proof is in the Eating
Well people, here we are less than 4 weeks from planting out the winter seedlings, the proof is now on the plate
A selection of lettuce and silver beet as a side salad with pumpkin and sweet potato soup was last nights meal.
The pumpkins grew from some spread compost, and took over the back yard, resulting in a years supply for the street.
The greens came, as you can see , from the growbed, and there's plenty more there.
What a System!!
cheers
Rodney

Thanks Guys,
Flushed with success so far, I have now embarked on stage 2 of the project: Growing food, mainly rootcrops, from seed.
To do this I have started a Vermiculite bed, but with a difference. I was concerned about bits of Verm draining through and ending up in the fishpond, so I made a shadecloth membrane in the growbed before the drain see pics. I used hot glue (Best invention of the 20th C.) to glue the membrane with a timber member across the top. I have set the water input flow to just moisten the Verm each cycle, and the water then drains through the medium back to the tank. The growbed does not fill, probably only about 50mm deep each cycle
I added some wormjuice , Charlie Carp and Seasol this morning and planted some radish, carrot and beet seeds.
Lets see what happens
cheers
Rodney
