I remember Joel saying how much of a problem the gravel can be on the old hands when trying to get all the roots out after each crop. To comabt this I brought a pair of red fore-arm length rubber gloves (the kind that are made of think plastic). Picked them up for $3.95 from the local Work Wear store. Will trial them out as soon as I get my gravel.
NB: They do restrict fine movement a fair bit, but I figure taking roots out after a crop is finished is to delicate a job.

hahahaha..... It can depend on the type of growing medium you have as to whether you need gloves or not. My round pea gravel is nice on the hands, but the cracked gravel in my small system sux.......

when we were cleaning the gravel I tried to tell my GF that it was a good exfoliate and hand massager all in one, better than any almond scrub or pummice.... :)

hahaha I'll just have to suck it up. But yeah I'm pretty sure it's going to be cracked gravel. Just thought the price would have been useful :P Might also be useful to help convince our better halves to feed our fish if we are away on business if they don't actually have to touch "the yucky weed thing and those wriggly yuck worms" hahahaha
