Today was a play with setting up the header tank and checking the syphon of it. Lots of fun, set up a standard blue barrel with an 11/2in (38.5 mm) pvc standard U bend syphon and checked the fill/dump rates at its present height. I have it filling to the very top but found the syphon would not start. Too much air in the system and the water pressure could not push it out. I inserted a fitting and small hose to the top of the (U) to burb the system, the hose, (one end attached to the fitting the other in the bottom of the barrel) did the trick. The barrel dumps 2/3 from full before the syphon cuts off, takes about 4 min for the dump. Of course it all changes when adding more pipe fittings and such, fun stuff.

C'mon John, this is all about AP (growing fish &veggies) not about immaturely attempting to produce a larger gusher than any other, balancing square blocks on round tanks ..etc

Keep to the topic in hand – Joyce will be so proud of me on her return

Oh by the way – great work, I love it

Suspicious placement of the hose. Watch the evaporation from all the splashing around.

GF, I saw one of the Rubbermaid 300 gallon tanks at Tractor Supply today. They are a lot wider than I had imagined.

Wife is jealous of my hobby, said the other day in trade she wants a rabbit. All I could think of was locating it above the fish tank to feed the fish the rabbit droppings. What did they have in Tractor Supply today but rabbits hopping around in a little metal stock tank... (They weren't for sale)

They are around the same size as the polypond I was looking at last week (7' * 2' - 330g) - damn wide is right, nice standing there dreaming of all those fish swimming merrily around inside

Na, Mike just playing with some pipe to give the flow some power, hoping to flood eight grow beds in 30 mins using a 1/16 hp pump.
I saw the work, very nice. You even put the ladder away!
Ell, my tank is more like an oval nearly 6' by 6', if this all goes bust its going to be my winter bath house!

That he does Ell.
Trying to get my system stable in temps, I have no idea what a green house environment is like so this will be an unknown path. I'm not sure anymore on the type of fish to get. The local Yellow perch wont like the water temp now its too high and I'm not sure I can sustain a water temp for tropicals. Taking baby steps yet. Oh and stacked some more rocks around the tank. Got rid of the suspicious garden hose. I have plenty of flow for aireation, a current to keep the solids moving about and feed for the growbeds.
