Those tanks look more like pressure vessels. and armoured like a WWII tank. i guess you won't be using inflatable ponds then....

Well put CL. I have walked your path as well. Most of the major stuff has been worked out. Its in the details where improvements are most easily made. And I love free, recycled stuff.

Thanks Charlie for spelling it out. That should be required reading for Newbies says the Newbie :) me.

I just now looked at your pics after my last post. What an awesome find.
I will bring a trackhoe and help you move them if you give me one?

You know Charlie, since those tanks have "filter" written on them. Do you think they could have been old sand filters. They used to be relatively common in municipal systems. I would guess they have alot of sand in them. (maybe growbed Media?).

Since they are so thick, they definetely were made to handle pressure.

But good things do come to those who are impatiently seeking :D

These are a couple of steel aeration tanks on our old city water treatment plant. Mayor says they are mine. Free! Just got to figure a way to get them...

6 ft. tall to that top weld seam and 8 ft. diameter (anybody care to figure approximate volume for me?), heavy steel about 1.5cm thick. Don't know what's on the inside yet. Even have sort of conical bottoms, more dome like as the tops. Figure on cutting the tops off or at least some sections of it for inside access. I'm on my way

Looks like four fish tanks in the photo to me Charlie. cut them both in half on site much easier to move to new location. or three fish tanks and a sump tank.
fish tanks to growbeds to sump back to fish tank&pump to towers then back to fish tank :D

The trackhoe offer still holds. :)

CL thanks, but I quit keeping score long ago.

I am just glad to help.

The top air pipe could just be for venting.

Wonderful, good luck getting it all sorted!!!!!!!

Ya know, for the small inside greenhouse system you are already running Hydro, you could probably convert to a small scale fish system (with only small investment) to help get her used to the idea of strawberrys grown on fish poo. If you can patch the old chest freezer and get a couple bins of that gravel going, you are there. Small batch of fish (or even some fishless cycling) and then a small batch of fish and there is you starter system to keep things moving while you work on sorting out those huge tanks!!!!!
Great score, I like the twofer angle.
