What makes you think they'll include pricing in their printed catalogues Kenour

That's the thing! I'm not overly confident that it will have a price in there either! But most of the time when I've ordered catalogues from companies, they include the pretty colour flashy catalogue of course, and they also include a photocopied black and white price sheet which has the product code and up to date price on it. I just don't know what century these people think they are living in...

This prejudice is probably because of my IT background, but seriously, get with the times :P

it's easier to just ask them for prices ;)

Actually, rather than make time during work to call these people, as most of these places don't have after hours Indian call centres, what I think would be easier, and I'm just throwing this idea out there, is to have an up to date online catalogue... so that someone who only wants to spend 5 seconds looking at a web page comparing prices can go 'click, ohh, that much, interesting' :P compared to, 'ring ring, hello, inept office lady here, hi would I be able to get a price on this, sure darl I'll go get the book, hmm, doesn't seem to be here, I'll ask one of the boys *waiting music* ... sorry about the wait, Barry's out of the office at the moment so I can't get you an exact price, can I get your number and I'll call you back... silence from me... crackling noise goes down the phone line because I've set my phone on fire out of frustration...'

Just a scenario I've had happen more than once! You all know this has happened to you :P

Kenour, I totally agree with you and share your frustration....

It's just another symptom of the disregard and arrogant approach of modern business towards it's customers or potential customers....

By making you ask for prices, and/or quote your requirements it allows them to negotiate (with themselves) an appropriate level of pricing....

You are after all... only a customer .... there to serve the enterprise and generate profits for the shareholders....

actually, when I first looked at their site 18 months ago for GH film the prices WERE on the website. But I rang them to get all the prices and availability of the accessories I was after too. The sales guy was fairly helpful.

you get better deals over the phone compared to an outdated internet/website price list..eg the online pricelist wont reflect any local deals that the supplier may have done that week etc enabling him to pass on a better saving....trust me on that one lol................many cant be bothered updating the online stuff...and if your going to rely on online prices then you deserve to pay a higher cost for being lazy :)(IT lazy)...oh and for rupes comment "It's just another symptom of the disregard and arrogant approach of modern business towards it's customers or potential customers.." I would say that would apply more to a multinational than the struggling local business person who in this day and age would bend over backwards to get your business in comparison to the optus's n telstra's of this world who just sign you up n put you on the conveyorbelt and wave as you dissappear out of their site and make ready to pounce on the next poor dumb prick...

Kenour, I may be way off base here but do you actually need a greenhouse or would one of those car shelters with walls do that you can buy at Super Cheap Autos or similar. Guess it depends on wind conditions and such. Ours has stood up pretty well to the winds here and we have opened the ends during summer to allow flow of heat out and then in the cooler months we close up the ends to keep the warmth in. Just a thought - only cost a little over $100.

No mate you're spot on, I've actually been looking into things like that as well! I found big w selling something similar to what you're describing in a sale they had a couple of weeks back, but they had no stock, in the 3 or so stores we rang!

I was planning on a permanent greenhouse because the growbeds aren't going to be moved anytime soon, I've claimed that half of the dogs yard in the name of aquaponics! :P But yeah, wouldn't be an overly expensive build, that's why I'm looking for material options :)

lol, I'm not expecting outdated price lists, why would I complain about something then demand they deliver a substandard solution :P

'Dear company with crappy site, I'm sick of you guys not having the prices for your products listed on your site! Instead, I want an out of date price list, randomly updated of course! :?'

All I expect is as a minimum from companies that bother to set up a web presence is something as simple as the price list on this computer parts site I frequent, http://www.cpl.net.au/ it's updated weekly with all the current prices of the most popular products, bundles and specials. Doesn't take much to train the office lady to update a price list and upload it to their web space! It's just a gripe of mine, if you're going to do something, do it right. Only hurdle is setup, and bastards like me don't come cheap  so I can see why some companies still have pathetically inadequate websites :P

Well this proves one of my favourite sayings... I've forgotten more that most people know :P

It's that time of the year again, just before winter when I decided it's a good idea to get a green house... again!

These things got me through the frosts last year, but as soon as a bit of sun got on them, in late spring/early summer, they disintegrated... but they were only $50 each, so not a major loss. But that brings me to my current predicament, I have some really good plants going at the moment since I introduced 100 silver perch 4 months ago, and I would like to keep them safe from the frost for a little longer (if not all winter!). So I searched the forum, and found this thread :P Lots of good ideas in here!

I've got some price lists from a few places, found 'The Glasshouse Company', they have a price list on their site, but it's out of date, add about 25% and that will be close to current pricing. This is who I will probably get a greenhouse from... when he answers his phone!

I found that retpath probably had the best greenhouses for the dimensions I wanted etc, but were asking $4000! The same sized ones at ghco were less than half the price.

So yeah, pretty much back to the beginning :P Just thought I would give an update as I haven't been on here lately, my poultry have been taking up most of my time...

If you have any suggestions or know of any other companies doing kits please let me know, something might have changed in the last year and a bit :P

Cheers!

My greenhouse built from pvc 20mm pressure pipe is a bit dodge. Basically in the heat it got all saggy, I had to prop it up with stuff, but I'd say if you're going to build it yourself, use something a bit more sturdy than 20mm pressure. Go for 50mm. I got the redpath stuff from ebay (like rope suggested) and its working well.
