Hi all,

I was driving and spotted several black IBC's and a few black barrels all stacked together with a for sale sign on them. I would have stopped to enquire but DH was not in the mood to stop. I'm hoping to get back there soon to have a better look at them.

Wondering if anyone else has seen them or might like to speculate what might have been in them? I just googled them and only got two overseas references for them, one as food/juice containers and the other selling them for Bio-diesel.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you,
Savage Goldfish

Black IBC's may not be necessarily bad plastic but usually contains nasties, check the label and especially for any dangerous goods labels. For instance if they have contained hydrochloric acid or such they may still be ok to use. Black is also used for light sensitive chemicals like silver nitrate.

Black plastic is often used in the food industry to extend storage/shipping times. Most pickled gherkins, oil-preserved olives and tomatoes are shipped in black barrels. I've seen black ICBs for very high quality oils and vinegars where long shelf life is required due to high cost/low usage rates.

Hi - here is a link to some IBC's with some black ones. Bit far for me to go to pick them up in Victoria :(

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Water-Tank-Syste ... dZViewItem

Seems they are ok for drinking water as the black helps slow down bacterial and algae growth. But the best part is that aparently the black ones are UV proof.

And just by the way - this guy has a few IBC's for sale for $80 each! Yatala on Sunshine Coast...

I have asked the guy what was in them before and will let you know when I do...
