This Topic was so promising. Has it died?

We need the source code & a database dump of this site to debug it.

And is access to the source code & a database a possibility, or is the website's decline terminal?

Don't think the source code is available Adrian....

As to the second part.... what decline are you referring to?

Rupert, it was my impression that the original design was meant to facilitate more sophisticated searching.

Undoubtably true Adrian.... the point has been made several times that the original site developer (for what ever reason) extensively modified the code and is no longer contactable.

Nothing as such has "changed" or "declined" .... the forum/search facility is as it has always been..... flawed to some extent.....

Personally, I agree that it may ultimately be beneficial to attempt a software upgrade....

But thats time and money.... and would probably require the site to be taken down for a period of time.....

Dont forget google searches. Type the following into the google search box then type what you are looking for after that:
Quote:
site:backyardaquaponics.com

A search for BSF larva would look like this
Quote:
site:backyardaquaponics.com BSF larva

DandDMan, it's precisely how I search BAP. But it seems an extraordinary way of having to trace important information on this (and I am beginning to consider it "our own") forum.

The new forum isn't searching properly either.

I think I remember reading recently that EB was running a program to index the forum - should that be working now?

Alas, it's still not working properly. :(

Examples:

a search for "ebara zero" or "+ebara +zero" or "ebara and zero" returns many posts with only "ebara" in them.

a search for "zero" returns 0 matches (how ironic!) ... yet there have been several uses of the word zero in posts.
