I know! Hanging around in their little gangs, bullying the water clarity and pH around, some one had to stand up to them!

I think I'll have to graph the levels during the great algae massacre of '08, just for Steve of course ;)

The water is looking clearer today, looks like the war is being won, plants are continuing to grow at a good rate, happy days. :)

Test from today:
pH: 7
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.5
Nitrate: 20-40

As expected with all the algae dying and rotting I suppose :) Better not get too high though!

Same as yesterday, I took a soft bristle broom to the inside of the pond and wiped off all the dead deceased corpses... had an... interesting smell...

I've switched the pump to continuous, and will leave it on for the rest of the evening, hopefully some of the free floating algae corpses I dislodged with the death broom will be deposited in the mass graves or growbeds as they're know.

I'll start introducing food again tomorrow I think, the feeder fish are disappearing at a rapid rate... I think I'll have to go grab another couple of hundred and put them in on the weekend. I might cut the food back and rely more heavily on feeder fish for a while, should help keep it clear for the immediate future. Just wish autumn would hurry up and get here, then it wouldn't be that much of a problem!

When you say you took a broom to the inside of the tank, do you mean the biofilm on the sides of the tank?? I would leave this in place, it helps keep your system stable... Biofilm is good..... :)
