I don't think that seasol is our solution. Just not enough bang for your buck I feel - particularly when trying to keep a big system in tip top shape.

Duh! why aren't we using potassium chloride as salt instead of sodium chloride!!!!!

potassium chloride is used in "lite" table salt (sodium reduced)

You'd have to research that one Steve.... isn't potassium chloride what they use for executions by lethal injection?

Yeah, but at a VERY high dosage. Its is used to interupt the electrical signals to the heart... Induces cardiac arrest... Just like a Large Triple Cheeseburger meal at Macca's.

Question then is.... does it have a cumulative affect ... in a recirculating system?

How fast do fish uptake salts? Do they even store the salts? Are marine fish salty?

rope, any of the sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium salts would have the same effect due to signal disruptions in muscles (heart)

LD50 for both tablesalt and potassium chloride is rougly 3grams per kg oral....

Who would have thought eating 250grams of salt would kill you ;)

Found an online store for Planters II, it's pretty cheap, but $20 shipping :P It's 10lb for $10, then $20 to get it here!

Having another look at Azomite, I think it might be worth trying, and is available here pretty cheap. Could also use it on my fruit tree's and grape vines.

For what it's woth I baught some Potassium Bicarbonate from the local brew shop which specialises in wine making, I haven't noticed any difference in the plants from using this as opposed to sulphate of potash. In both cases the plants are healthy and starting to get rid of that tired sick of life look. :)

I do feel a bit better in knowing that this stuff was meant to go into wine and therefore fit for human consumption. Even though I saw no adverse effects on the fish from the potash I decided to swap to the bicarb "just in case"..

My grow beds are the 160L containers available from B and I'm putting in a tablespoon into each grow bed once a week, I plan on increasing this to twice a week as the cucumbers and zuke's are looking sad as they set fruit.

BTW the Potassium Bicarbonate was about $14 for a kilo.

Hizmo, problem is that people with high ph (or correct ph) will raise it too much using the bi-carb

I haven't seen an increase over the last two weeks (when I started adding Bi-carb), though I have been adding water to compensate for evaporation etc, which may be reducing the effect...

I haven't tested this week (generally do it Saturday mornings) but Ph has pretty much remained at or about 7.6 from the start.

I will keep an eye on it though,
