VB, I have a $99 GMC generator that I have successfully ran 600 watt angle grinders under full load and a vacuum cleaner off. I am confident that it would run my entire system if the power goes out (and I'm homer to stoke it up!) It's rated at 850 Watts.

Interested to hear more re: Murrays device.

Here is such a device, cost of parts and to pay an electrician to wire it up 76.00

That is very good value Murray. I know elsewhere you can expect to pay significantly more than $100.

VB, GMC make them in 850W 950W and 2300W

The $99 bunnings one is the 850W. Even on start up the fridge won't take any where near that :)

And for $99 with a 2 year warranty? I'll swap my UPS for it :)

And at 850W (800W cont.) it will run 3 submercible pumps (at 260W ea)

For some reason I thought they weren't up to that sort of thing. Some bunnings bloke told me when I inquired one day. Thought it was strange when I looked at my fridge and saw it drew way less than what the gen was rated at.
