This trap is similar I think. It is used to catch bait fish, but I got the jumbo sized entry hole. It is big enough for 4 inch high, by 1 1/2 inch wide fish, which I think is close to a yearling Bluegill. Since I will be using chum to make food for the fish, I can select only the best fish, either from the trap or the pole, and chum the rest, but only what I need of course.

Question for the group. Earlier posts indicate that I should use some salt to help clean up my fish. Is this table salt, or aquarium salt? how much should I use. I have a 150 gallon tank, and a 110 gallon tank. What effect will the salt have on the plants if any?

for salt, do not use iodised salt. We have found that swimming pool salt is the cheapest way of buying it.
Salt is usually used as a quarantine measure with the fish, not as an everyday thing. Some plants can handle salt, others die quickly.
Usual dose is 4 parts per thousand. In metric 4kg per 1000L water.

been pondering on this for a while.................

some of the salt could be replaced with magnesium sulphate (epsom salts)

this will provide added magnesium and sulpher (1:4 ratio i think) to the system water as well as raising salinity.

As far as i am aware the increase in salinity is the beneficial comonent, not so much the salt used itself.

Jamie, are we erring on the side of caution regarding the iodine? i've read a 50/50 mix of this issue.
comments?

I'm not sure where the iodine issue came from.

ah yes, do remember reading that, but i took it differently!

i feel what they meant is that they cant be filletted. so as to be able to enforce size / weight regs.

look up the definition of carcass on the regs you will see what i mean.
