I think it also said that he had 1,000 silvers in 1,000 liters of water - they better be minnows....

Of course, this could all be fault of the reporter (it seems to be someone reporting)

Yeah, that caught my attention. My system is just settling in but if it keeps working as well as it is - I just might move it out of hobby to production. In one of the farms, we have a large (24 inch flow) spring fed stream with a drop of 100 meters. Plenty to produce water power for a pump. There is a slope that is pretty much worthless but it would make a great cascading system location.

The nearest vegetable grows are about 3 hours away (you have to be in the mountains to grow lettuce - too much disease otherwise) - if this system works, life will be good. There is someone in the low lands (much hotter than us) growing hydroponic lettuce for La Fortuna. (big tourist area) and we have Arenal (another big one) just over the hill.

I wasn't planning on this being commercial but... if it goes that way, well, just add some more people to the payroll.

But, I would like to see the current system "harden" some more. I would like to see it reach a full cycle of fish and veggies (i.e. having to start new generations of long term crops) This way I can calculate all the costs.

Think the whole things a beat up by another person who's heard about aquaponics but never actually done it.....

The "herbs" are freshly planted (complete with the label off the punnet tray) in freshly laid gravel......

It certainly doesn't look like a working system at the time of the photo... despite the claims that the "herbs" were being used by the TAFE chef...

And a 1000 silvers in 1000 litre.... someone should get to this guy before he starts his "course".....

And the $60K commercial operation, that nobody knows or has heard anything about......

I'm sorry, but that article is a shocker IMHO. as much as 30 weeks to grow out a fish? What size? Are they serious? Has he ever actually grown a silver perch? More bad info that will invariably lead to tears. IMHO

And the article on the 17w is all you need to be 100% self sufficient and feed back to the grid solar system is as bad....

$60 000 turnover is not profit. Running a service station with a $1 000 000 turnover hardly paid the bills. Money in money out.

And there was no mention of the seasonal nature of the crops grown. People these days want things but are not prepared to plan for them by planting in advance of their needs.
People may expect that they can get lettuce & tomato in the depths of winter, without having a greenhouse, just a 2bed, 1Kl AP system.
