Hi All, trust we are enjoying the long weekend. Well i spent most of it drawing up the shade cloth frame that i will start welding up tomorrow. But for now here is a picture of the tomato plants, which seem to be doing really good, they stand a very proud 16cm.

I addressed the potassium problem by adding some banana skins to the grow bed, after Robyn's advice. Now its just the shade cloth to stop the birds and sun from attacking my setup, and im taking a water sample to work to analyze more deeply :)

How are your plants looking now, Jeff? Did they enjoy the little rain we had yesterday? Have you sighted your fish lately and are they growing?

Hi all, been a busy weekend for my AP, just got home from seeing the LCC AP master Tim C, with a load of goodies. I also cemented in the post to build my own shade house over the grow beds to protect them from the scorching WA sun. It should be finished next weekend.

I am changing the little hidey holes for the marine life, as the PVC pipe was just rolling around, and they weren't using it. So i upgraded to the terracotta pipe bits.

Also added 10 more fish. Its the last of the fish to go in, 8 Tillapia and Nic threw in 2 more catfish! YIPPEE.

The final addition was about 500ml of the finest 'gunk' available. Hopefully i will start to get the all important nitrates now.

enjoy and feel free to comment

:)

Boy! your fishies will be having fun with all that new play equipment AND some new buddies too!

Great stuff with the shade house - any diagrams to help us visualise the setup, or are you keeping us in suspense until you have a photo of the finished product?

..truth is i just didn't think it was that exciting, its just some bits of 25mm square tube that we had lying around the school and i welded up a bit of a frame, its not even covered yet, need to get some shade cloth..

I can't stress this enough..... DON'T put that bottle in the fridge!!!

All the little guys make it in OK JJ?

Don't worry RT your Tilapia have still got your name on them... I have 20 here ready for you now. They should be the same size as your perch.

JJ, You could place the terracotta bits either side of the pvc pipe to stop them rolling around in the tank...adds a few more hiding places

Well i just came in from feeding the fish, and i got to say, it is impressive to see a whole school of Tilapia swimming around. They are much bolder than the perch, and will come to the surface to eat the flake, while the perch roam around the bottom bullying any smaller fish out of the way, for the sinking bits. Most satisfying and just relaxing to watch :)

Thanks again Tim and Robyn for getting me into this.
