Imagine trying to get the tricky buggers out of a big pond :D I know the bloke you get them off he is very very busy and works allot for another aquaculture bloke.

I am sure he will give you a good deal once you get them, for been so patience. Don't forget when you have that many marron and do it as a aquaculture supply getting 10 or so for someone is harder than getting 100 believe it or not :D

Let me know how those Bristlenose go, i am very keen on catfish in AP because of the low nitrates and growing them out. Oh and when they get around 6-7cm ill make you up a cave and you can breed them :D

Thanks Nic, yeah they all settled in well, just checked about 3 hours after they all went in. The catfish are doing the right thing, and are hard at work cleaning my tank already!! there nice little fellas them.. ..the tilipia are the only concern, there swimming around close to the surface, worried the will be some bird or stray cats dinner tonight.

Also i might have to talk to ya dad about those terracotta pipes and bits, they are heaps more stable than the PVC which has to be safer, plus the half cut pots would make great hiding places for the smaller fish life.

Hi All, no picture this week, been too busy at work and nothing really changed that much, except i loss my first fish, the little fella just freaked me out for 2 days swimming sideways to the surface and then darting away.. ..then he decided to kick the bucket so to speak. For what its worth he grew about 15mm in 3 weeks, not sure if this is good, im just pleased he grew!!!

Finally, a lot of the plants are starting to get a yellowing of the leaves, well actually all of them except the peas and tomato's. Is this just the hot weather we are having in Perth, or a system problem???

Love to hear anyones thoughts.

Isn't yellowing a sign of potassium deficiency (not real sure), potassium is not in fish food and should be added as a supplement...there is a link, here it is
Potassium discussion

...could be heat related too

I have been using Min Plus on a weekly basis and haven't had the yellow(ing) leaf problem as yet

Yellowing of the leaves is usually Iron deficiancy, chelated iron from waldecks etc should fix it up.

I buried a whole heap of steel bars in my first system tank and beds - no yellowing since :)

Sorry 'bout your fish, Jeff! Not a very nice feeling, so I hope the rest are all well and healthy and growing! Was it one of the perch? Hope your plants survive this hot spell!

Leaves with green veins but yellow otherwise is a sign of iron deficiency. Other patterns of yellow mean other things.

Iron levels shouldn't bother fish one way or the other.

Chelated iron doesnt hurt fish, a photo of the leaves would help :)

here is that picture. Its of some baby beats, they have a red leaf, well they did when they were smaller. Its also the most pronounced yellowing i was talking about..

also, all the veg seems to have stalled in there growth, any ideas why? or is this just a lack of nutrients, and i have to wait for the fish to get bigger???

Slow growth will be lack of light or lack of nutes.

My silverbeet went like that beetroot, and iron fixed them up.

My growth for the first couple of months was really slow, until I got a whole heap of fish :)

thanks Outback, i think its just nutrients and the fact that the system is only 6 weeks old. Guess i have to be patient and get some iron :)
