Yep, the "old salt pan" is called Lake Ballard  ... if memory serves me correctly :D

So Menzies can rightly claim to have an open air art gallery exhibiting sculpture by an internationaly reknowned artist. :D

Bet you never thought it was such a bustling artistic community

$5,000 for 1/4 arce in the middle of nowhere I think is expensive, seeing that I have been offered 7acres for $10,000 1hr 1/2 from melbourne (No amenities). admitantly that was 8 months ago.
Cheers

if we all put in and grab one each next to each other, we could use the space to setup a saline aquaculture farm. we would soon each make back the $5k for the land.

in an ideal world. :)

we bought a 65 acre malley block an hour and a half from adelaide a few years back for $16500. The underground water was so rich in magnesium I think it was, that they said a cup of it would kill a horse
We sat on it for a couple of years and offloaded it after a lot of false starts last year, for $29500. So even shit land with no water can appreciate in the right market

Looks like I won't be buying around there till I win lotto.

120km from Kal, it's near where i am right now at work.
only a 1/4 acre? you'd have to pay ME to live there, let alone buy a patch of that horrible red dust.

A few places looking in realestate.com.au = to $1,500 to $2000 per acre, mind you, your looking at 20 acre minimum, so $35,000.
about 2 -2.5hrs Melb
I know if I wasn't up to my eye brows in debt I'd be purchasing.
And I'm sure you'd get better deals checking estate agents and not relying on the net.

Cheers
Ron

Quick update for you all.
Nearly ALL the residential blocks in Menzies have been spoken for and some of the rural ones as well.
The response was awesome, I was on the phone most of the weekend and my boss was still fielding calls until 21:45 last night (for the first time in ages he turned it off)
Must be something going on for such a response, I will update later and tell how many were actually purchased.
