Got down to 0.2 degree Celius here where I live this morning...Might get some freezing in smaller diameter pipes this winter...seems like hothouses would be a good idea for aquaponic systems

MY Jade Perch are doing great...they are about 100mm long now and really fat little fellas....water temp gets up to 23 during the day and is dropping to about 20 - 21 during the night with the lid on the tank. So I can see the need for heating/insulation of some sort if continuous growing is the order of the day. A decent green house is a must, I would think, to keep those growing temps good both for the fish and the vegies.

That's a great growth rate Murray. Weren't they less than 50mm when you bought them. What have you been feeding them?

Hi VB,
Jades are being fed a sprinkling of tropical flakes in the AM and native pellets in the PM. They have eaten all the duck weed I purchased.
Once again , I need to get a proper set up to grow the duckweed. The Jade really love that stuff. The way they gobbled that up, I think it might just be their preferred tucker.
I just have to get organised and get a green house built so I can get all these things set up. I really want to do this Aquaponics thing properly.
Murray

The anti-aquaponics-men-in-black are conspiring against me :(

I got my morning job out of the way and went off to the "B" store, found the mini-greenhouses you used, LB. Even with joining two of them together they would not have suited my sunken tank. No matter, i spotted a beautiful 2x2x2 (approx) aluminium and polycarbonate hot house. Yep i thought i'll spen $250-$300 on that and them i'm set, no more mucking around. They even have agents at the "B" store  I asked for a price as none was listed, i now know why........$698!!!!! Ok, time for some improv. I spotted a "dome" mini green house 1.5m diameter almost 1m high. Perfect i say, my tank is 1M square. buy some pvc and some fittings, a 60L tub and off i go home. Just around the corner from home the heater hose in the car blows up(worry about that later). Great. But i'm still happy becasue i'm going to have the tank covered. Get the "dome" home and try to put it on the tank. Nope, its not a circular dome, but more of a "hex" dome, and the 1.5m was between two of the side points. No matter, it fits with just one small corner of the tank uncovered, looks a little wonky but it will do for now. Rain. Damned rain. I tried to tuff it, but am now soaked. I'm sure it didn't look this hard is Joels book :) At least i have the 60L tub and the pvc pipe to drill holes in.
