 Really... hmm... surely more nitrate=more plant growth? I know zero doesn't mean there are no nitrates in the system, just that the plants are taking them up as fast as they're being made. To me though this indicates you either have the ratio spot on, or the plants aren't getting enough food, which I suppose is hard to tell because there isn't a 'negative nitrate' test (i.e. how much more the plants could use if available). But then again, you could just look at the plants to see if they look malnourished. :)

I think to be on the safe side, a little extra in the system shouldn't hurt, the fish certainly don't mind it at low levels. I just want something to measure damn it!!! :P I was hoping to keep them around 20-40ish! My mates aquariums run about 80-160 most of the time, I've talked him into running a mini herb garden off one of them in the kitchen :D Plants will go nuts!

Heh :) He's the one that actually put me onto AP! He's a mad fishnatic, he's got heaps of tanks and fishies. He came across AP while researching stuff for his fish.

So now with me having a system up and going, I've been pushing him to put something together! Sooooo much nitrate! :D

Usual it’s self-evident the name of an animal. I should of thought about it before asking
Once I asked my wife what is that white throated bird creeping up that tree. We looked it up; turned out to be a white-throated tree creeper. Go figure.

Bahahaha! That's awesome :P I shouldn't talk though, a Redfin is probably on of the only freshwater fish I can identify with any certainty. When I go fishing, it's always to the big wide ocean. Never been a fan of fresh water mud fish :P

I managed to snag 9 before it got dark! Hopefully be going elsewhere to grab some more. Don't know how well (if at all) Redfin breed in captivity, or what conditions/environment they need if they do. If they do breed easily, I thought it best to get some genetic diversity from another spot (even though all the Redfin around Ballarat are probably cousins! :P).

Apparently they can get up to 2' and about 10kg! But I think you'd eat them before they got that big :)

Dunno how well they breed in captivity if at all, I'll just have to find out :)

Knew they were in the Murray system and places in WA ....

One wonders how they ended up in the Ballarat Golf Club ....

Are you supposed to report them in Vic?
