Hello everyone...

We have compiled our first manual on how to rear black soldier fly from food scraps using a BioPod™. There is a lot of information from practical experience on raising BSF. This should be enough info to get some more people started. I am especially interested in people wanting to set up systems for feeding fish, like DanDman.

In Australia the guys at http://www.ecocityfarm.com/ already have some units in production. This is an exciting time for us, as we have been fanatic about black soldier fly technology for years.

Feel free to comment and direct any question in this forum, as we are always open to new and better ideas.

it is certainly a means to dispose of AP plant waste and to be able to supplement the fish food is an added bonus :wink:

Robert - or anybody else, any idea how much Ecocityfarm charges for the domestic units. I see they are the Ausie distributor and are shown as being in Brisbane (though I thought they were in Nimbin??). They don't seem to have details on their website about sales of this product.

VB.... despite nearly 1 - 2 years since the New Inventors program... they don't as yet have a commercially available product.

From their FAQ section ... EcocityFarm FAQ

How much does an ecoCity Farm cost?

Costings are still being finalised but will be similar to the cost of an aquaculture system plus hydroponic system of a similar size. Because the ecoCity Farm is able to direct market produce at retail prices to urban customers it is very cost effective, as a much smaller production system produces the same profit as a much larger conventional wholesale farming system.


When I talked to them shortly after the New Inventors show they basically said that the system was a "turnkey" faranchise system with a proprietry IT front end and back to base monitoring and support.....

They were quoting $500,000 plus ongoing annual support fees.... excluding greenhouse, power, water, fish and plants :D

Rupert - I mean the soldier fly biopod units. They are the Australian distributor.

The biopod is $125 or $150. They will have some this month! You have to reserve one because they are selling. I have ordered one already to give it a try.

VB is talking about in Aus DDM, I was interested in prices and availability as well, but as Rope has stated, Ecocity don't have them for sale.

VB, where did you get the info that they were a distributor, Roli79 did say that Ecocity had them in production...I took that to mean they were using the units???

Elk, the BioPod site has them listed as the Australian "vendors" under the Interational section of their "Dealer" tab...... address listed as Brisbane as VB said.... maybe they thought nobody would know where Nimbin was :D

Based on the exchange rate you'd think they whould be about $150 - $175 Aus
