If you could find it the patent would give an good idea of the internal workings.. just for curiousity of course.
The shape of it reminds me of a ww2 air raid siren :wink:

I have a small Jabsco positive displacement pump. Has a rubber impeller that compresses due to the internal pump shape. Looks like a king sized version of that. Works at almost any speed.

Hey DanD
Try a proffessional hardware store that sells spare parts for compressors and cement mixers, they may have pullys of either of these. They will also stock belts for them. Alternativly try a bearing supplier (as in ball bearings) There is one near me that sells pullys and belts, but i'm not near you
