I have known about these pumps for years but could never purchase one. They are finally for sale. These pumps pump huge volumes of water at low rpm without a lot of effort(never uses more than 200 RPM)! These can have a motor hooked up and would be ideal for wind power or DC solar pumps. I think this may be the idea solution for solar AP.

At a demonstration I saw one turned by hand. It emptied a 55 gallon drum in no time(well I can't remember the amount of time I just remember that it was faster than any normal pump).

These are available at Home Hardware in Canada. I can not find it in their catalog. The people who make the pump insist its for sale there. They will be for sale in the US soon. Use the contact info to get more info.

Same here C1, looks like a fuel pump for 44 gal drums.

As it uses low rpm to produce a good output I'm wondering how much torque it would take?

$10 says its a simple multi vane centifugal, like putting a barrel fan in an enclosure.

i know for a fact they they still produce surprising flow until completely stopped and they have a thoretical suction head of around 30 feet.

high flow but not very good outlet pressure.

That guy hand cranked water to what looks like 20 or more feet. Pressure is not what I need to flood a grow bed anyway.

This may be so but the original idea of a windmill turning this or solar power is a good one IMHO it could be used to aerate the water by simply lifting it to a certain height and letting it fall back to the tank (just a thought)

I see no reason this pump would not be perfect. It uses very little power to move a huge volume of water. Much more efficient that the garden pond variety centrifugal pumps. The higher you lift the water the more power it takes to lift that weight. But to pump water from a sump to a tank I envision a large pulley on the pump and a small high efficiency 12 motor power from a solar charged battery.

In the video it looks to be moving about 1 gallon per second(3600 gallons per hour) when hooked to a drill. Even hand cranked its moving a 2 inch stream of water. If you wanted a non-powered aeration system you could use a water tower and hand pump it full a couple times a day then let the water trickle back into the tank (not that I would want to, but a amish AP farmer might like that idea).

I'm sold, let me know when/ if they are avalible and we'll work something out.
In the mean time I will look around here/oz for one.

They are supposedly super simple to make and maintain.

Way to go Rupert! Not real cheap, but I am going to try one anyway. I think the biggest problem will be finding a pulley to attach to it.
