Had another scare today as our 14 year old daughter yelled from the tank "what is wrong with the fish". Laura had been showing a friend the system and Danielle was thrilled to see the fish skimming the water surface gulping for air and saying "oh aren't they so cute"
"uh,no, that is not normal" says Laura, "there is something very wrong".
The water was very still, there was no sign of water draining into the system and when I checked the growbed standpipes there was not a drop of water flowing through. After initially thinking it may be a pump break down I checked the timer and found the plug had pulled away from the powerpoint. I pushed it back in and switched the timer to run continuously to get some aeration back into the system. Well done, Laura saved the day.

You know ROO, I hadactually typed that line in and then deleted it.There must be a moral in this story and I will keep a closer eye on things particularly with the temp in the mid 30s.

Maybe some duct tape or nylon ties on the outlet would be good. You see more foot traffic at your system than most.

Of course there was an air stone in the tank, they is why there were no losses.

These "plug pulled out of the wall" incidents could be fatal to the fish, maybe it would be worthwhile to use switched, fused connection units instead of standard power sockets for critical electrical items like water and air pumps..no plug to pull out.

Wow, Faye - every good story has an excitement chapter! You certainly handled the suspense well, keeping us on our toes entry by entry!

So pleased it worked out well for you! You are obviously training your daughter well in the art and science of aquaponics!

Oh well, it was not at all planned, these things just happen. Fortunately sometimes we are just lucky. As well, the harder we work the luckier we get.
