Still, there was most certainly some heart attack material in there.
Glad they are all ok

Well, what I think and I am clearly no expert. I think the 5 degrees difference of temp in water had a definite impact and because the tank is a total of 500 litres it caused them shock. Not to mention the colder water was going into the bottom which is why they ware all at the top and then I got the hose and put cold water on the top and down into the water as well, they were clearly spinning out. when I sarted the cycle the temp would have stabilised and the fish recovered very quickly.
Next time I will top up the main tank, it will be little and often.
If I had done this during the active part of the cycle there may not have been a problem, because the water would have been moving through.
It is also possible that this all could have happened and I just would not have been aware, I don't know how easily they would recover and what their threshold is. I have not noticed the Barramundi behave in the same way and I am learning about the personalities of the different fish species.

Nice Save Faye.
I shouldn't expect that the shock was good for them. Treat them nice for a bit. I think I remember TT saying that 5deg difference was really bad. I don't know the figures, With small scale aquariums, you never manage to change the temp so drastically, and it's easier to mother the system more and bring temps to equilibrium.
Really happy they're ok Faye.
I did think your tone was a bit off for someone who had just killed all their fish - nasty of you to space it out into multiple posts like that :-) grrr...

what a comeback! you almost reached muzzas title :)

yes, temps swings are bad. acclimatisation is well worth it.

I've also found that large fish dont transport as well as small fish.

I guess it could be one way of collecting your nights feed...
shove in some cold water! and pick what you want,
then warm it up again.

Hey Faye, nice save. 5C up when transferring fish is generally fine, 5C down is bad. I wonder, do you have a DO meter? I would be interested to find out the DO level in your bore water.
