I wonder if I could "borrow" one of those baskets at our local supermarket. Now that's how I'll be washing my gravel in future !!

I found the holes in most baskets were too big, for some reason I had a coles basket in the shed, and they have long slits as apposed to small holes, the scoria just fell straight out. But I'm sure you'll find something suitable :P

Well... after getting all the growbeds level, only had time to fill one of them up before beer'o'clock.

The B basket method worked well, I only had to empty the water tub twice, each time there was about 4 inches of good old scoria gunk in the bottom! I took it and spread it around my feijoa trees, as they're the next to fruit, there would be a whole bunch of goodness in the scoria gunk! So hopefully I'll get fat feijoa's this year... mmm, feijoa and apple pie... mmm, feijoa and rhubarb crumble... mmm... better stop before I drool myself to death ;)

the brickwork on the standpipe reminds me of someonelse's system. Nice work man, coming together good.
Got told that rainbow fingerlings from Ballarat were $77/100, currently around 60-80mm. Does this sound about right?

from now on they go up by $10/100/month. Was advised not to think about any for another 6 weeks or so due to water temps.

Cheers man, just gotta figure out a permanent DUCK OFF system :P As you can see I've tacked up some junk I had laying around to keep them out for tonight :P Don't want them to eat the seedlings I found laying around! You've seen my joint, there are little lettuce's and tommies and junk everywhere, I just whipped around on a seedling hunt and grabbed a few small things to throw in there. The water's not cycled yet so I dunno how well they'll do, still on zero ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and a pretty high pH! Doesnt look like the goldies are making enough magic fish juice to kick start the system! Hopefully the water will clear up a bit now it's cycling, then I'll pull the goldies out and dose it good and proper ;)

I had them on there to hold them in position when I was filling the bed with gravel, then when I had finished I decided to leave them their to stop the local emo suicide sparrows! I often find drown sparrows in the ducks water, they've obviously gone for a drink and gotten water logged. Sometimes you just find feathers scattered around the place, I always thought it was a opportunistic neighbourhood cat until I saw it was actually the ducks picking them out and eating them... :pukeleft:

Sounds about right for the trout, I think I told you my neighbours brother runs the place! Hopefully this dang water will hurry up and cycle so I can put them in over winter! :)

Well! Finally washed all the gravel and filled up the remaining 3 growbeds, with a little help from Tam (and an extra B basket)! Now we're both very sore and tired :P Didn't finish till late, I'll get some photo's up tomorrow after work. Everything is flooding and draining perfectly, which is doubly good as it's functional and pretty :P Because just as the water level hits the hole in the standpipe the pump starts, which means there's water constantly running down the waterfall :)
