Hi everyone. This is the shrimp found in our waters. http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/caribbean/wildl ... 2003.shtml

Now my question is, could I keep shrimp in my main fish tank or do I have to have a separate tank for them?

a mesh barrier has been used to seperate inmates before, save on extra tanks if you have capacity

Mind you I just looked at the link, we would call that a yabbie or similar over here (grows to 45cm!). I have had 6 yabbies in a bath tub for 6 months now with 32 goldfish with no problems. I know when the fish get bigger it will be a different story but for now they all get along.

Asitis, that things a crayfish!!! not a yabbie, more like a Marron :-) it gows to half a kilo!!! Yabbies at best are 150g I would guess...
But I agree, not what we'd call a shrimp... :-D

It is a fresh water shrimp, or langostino if you prefer. VERY tasty. Imagine lobster but a bit sweeter. I am starting to drool...

mwdesign, if it works for you, you have to let us know. We have them down here too.

By the way, tarpon love to munch on them. :D

Yeah point taken ;) . Does any1 know what they call the ones in tassie that grow to 1m long. That would probably be the term I would use :D

Ok I collected 7 yesterday. I put 3 in the 55G guppy tank & 4 in my pond. I thought they'd be shocked with the move but they didn't seem to care. They were eating shortly after I put them in. I probably won't see the ones in the pond for a while.

Hey CR, I don't think I'll be putting tarpon in my system! ;)

Yeah, putting a tarpon is might require a pretty large system... :eek:

I have been fishing on the Rio Frio, which you can cast from one side to the other, and had a 100+ lb tarpon jump out the water. Thankfully, it didn't land in the boat!
