possibly... :-)
6 walked into a pub last night... acted like they owned the place. It was empty mind, maybe 10 ppl. Walked right round the perimiter of the room, ignored all pleasantries (and soon not so pleasantries) from the patrons, and then marched out. So many, in that uniform that looks like combat gear/fatigues anybody would think they were scared...

pffft stupid speed regs in Vic, and somewhat in NSW make it more dangerous imho. If in a hurry, and not wanting a ticket, I spend more time watching my speedo, as the limits change then I do the road in front... Really dangerous. But I rarely speed and even more rarely get pulled over for it. What's wrong with saying hello? Vic Coppers always do, I felt like I was in US when last I got pulled over... thought I'd better get back in the car before he drew his gun!
anyhow C1, WAY OT... :-)

So Nic,
When you take flying lessons, are you going to skip the take-offs and landings, and just do the flying part?

I think in any endeavor it is important to learn as many different aspects as possible.

I am not ignoring the other side i am just saying when the time comes that joel starts setting up fish ill join in as i may be of help to him. No point in going and helping him with plants if i can barely tell tomato from capsicum :D (i can btw).

I think i posted somewhere on here that i am into the plants as the filter and i have had quite a few years of experience with fish, freshwater and marine. I am interested in anything fish related and for me aquaponics is plants are the ultimate use for the fish's filter (and waste) while some people see fish as the ultimate fertilizer for their plants (plants come first).

I am not shutting out knowledge on plants though, as my system develops i will learn from it and i am honing in on some posts here relating to plants to try to improve me very basic understanding. I may be doing a aquaculutre course at the end of this year and hope one day (if moneys willing) to start a commercial aquaculture or even aquaponics system, i am speaking with Tim atm.

Thanks

Nic

if someone were to dob them in i'm sure it would be investigated.

i guess its up to the public to decide what is acceptable and not. you can have all the legislation in the world but if no ones making a fuss about things then they will likely stay the same.

so basically it is up to you to decide if what they are doing in right or not. if your concerned by the owners actions then you have a right to complain. you have to think about the possible repercussions though. they might by a genuine good family struggling to make ends meet. the little extra they get from selling fish may provide their children with a meal for that night. extreme i know but a possible scenario.

in the end karma has a way of working things out. plus dobbing just isn't australian like, is it? i suspect that a lot is tolerated by most people. society is run by people not legislative bodies.

Yup :-)
more australian to make your concerns known, then if nothing happens after a reasonable amount of time, sneak into his backyard and poison his fish - turn off his pump - pull his siphon out of the creek he's stealing water from so it gets an airlock - shoot his dog - cut down his tree (on your side only so it looks so ugly he removes it, or perhaps so it dies from abusive pruning)
:-)
It's Unaustralian to get the coppas or authorities involved cos normally what you're bitching about is a grey area, and they're impotent. (the authorities, not your neighbours... although it could explain a couple of things, like that phallic fur-tree in their backyard that I hate)

They are a honest group of people making a living, the fish are healthy and look after why take away a mans business???

Well as far as we know they may have a license, if there is indeed one. Can someone please show me the form or some info concerning it as i have a strong suspicion that many of the fish stores do not.

Nic

get the name and do an ABR or ABN search, that should pop up a few clues!
Every business has to have their rego displayed on site (unless they have an accountant where the regoed office is) and branding needs to have an abn with the full name.

Nic

There is plenty of info on Aquaculture licences on the fisheries web site though after reading through it you may be no wiser as to whether what you want to do could be classified as a hobby (and therefore not need a licence) or a commercial enterprise. I have spoken to fisheries a few times on this subject and the way they see it is that if you are going to make any money out of selling fish then you need an Aquaculture licence. The thing is at $400 for the licence (per yr) plus an extra $130 (per yr) if you want to translocate non-endemic fish within WA you need to be selling quite a few fish just to cover your costs.
Its interesting to note that there are only 20 active licences to sell Ornamental fish in this state and 24 licenced to sell Barra, Trout and Silvers compared to 190 to sell Marron and Yabbies!!.
