2 wrongs don't make it right, to cause pain puts us right back in the mix, just for the enjoyment of the populas, doesn't sit well, unless of course it was the victim that was prepared to rewrite history... just get rid of them as quickly as possible with no fuss, no expense, and some benifit.
No fun can be got from this and is no laughing matter...says a father of 3 girls and a grandson.

very true, sex offenders don't rehabilitate, at best you can suppress their urges chemically but how do you ensure they take their medication.
i saw a great doco on this where the basic gist was that you are no more likely to change a sexual predator then you are to change someone from gay to straight.
it had something to do with low arousal levels and that they needed to be hurting someone to feel release, similar to serial killers

During my software career - I converted the data in to fairly large cities of the arrest records of the police. As part of the work, I had to validate my conversion. During that process I ran across one set of records assigned to one "gentleman" who had 200+ arrests. I was sure this was impossible so I recheced and rechecked - finally I contacted the client.

They knew exactly who I was talking about and said it was true. Then they said something I will always remember. They said, "If we could get rid of 10% of the population, we wouldn't have any work."

All the prisons, all the police are for the 10% who can't seem to figure out they need to think of others and not just themselves.

From what I have read, no sexual predator of young kids should ever leave prison. They are pretty much unfixable. I suspect it is because no one does it "by accident" and they have already lost the battle between good and evil in their minds a long time ago and have chosen to be totally selfish and self centered.

One problem with humans making these decisions (life/death) for other humans is that we all have prejudices. That's how you get Hitler taking out all those groups he personally disliked. I agree that there are some that should be removed, but how to decide where to draw the line between evil vs troubled vs different is the problem. Not in this case...probably (I don't know the facts and don't trust news. Even judges will hide information from the jury that they think will sway them the wrong way.)

BTW: here we have a saying: shoot, shovel, shut up. Applies to individuals of protected species that cause problems but may not be legally destroyed. I would never, of course, advocate any such action.

Finally, do we really need vengeance? Can't we simply get rid of these problems (through our legal systems...if they work) more in sadness than anger? I can understand the men who taunted Saddam at his execution, but it will not improve the world.

I suppose vengeance has its place as some sort of cathartic, but if you are going to have vengeance, make it personal: let the victim or their fam or friends do it once the crime is decided legally. Give them the choice, give them the gun, let them decide

That said, I'd check the facts, then feed that guy to the fish: "Hey!!! You!! Out of the gene pool!" Darn: now I need more fish and growbeds to handle all this high-protein feed....

Just so you all know, I wasn't advocating killing off the 10%, just pointing out that it is a relatively small percentage that is causing the problems.

Come on CRTD we thought you were of the 1% who liked doing nasty things to the remaining 9% :-)
I doubt anybody actually willing to carry out bloodshed, would advocate it... you're in the clear mate.

Personally, anyone who would willingly work as a Defense attorney trying to loose an offender back into the public should also be sent to jail... possibly with the others he wasn't so successful defending... just a thought.

PS, lot of people here seem to work in the mental health field from what I can see. I have family in the mental health field including my fiance. I don't think there is any sort of rehab that works... not for these guys.
