All sounds pretty good Michael. Am a little concerned about buying a sinking pellet though. Although I agree that silvers will feed fine from a sinking pellet, it does make it much more difficult to identify whether the perch are eating all the food that they are fed. Having said that, if operating an efficient tank which sends waste quickly to a centre drain (as I and many others are - including Aussieponic) then any pellets not consumed fairly quickly will find there way rapidly to the grow-bed, a clear indicator of overfeeding.

I'll certainly get in for a bag to give it a go when you start and then will cross my fingers that popularity warrants you increasing the pellet size, because in the long run 4mm is a bit small for fish as they start to grow. I have found that for larger fish, the need to feed more pellets to get the same quantity of feed to them just increases the likelihood that they will miss some of the feed. This issue will be exacerbated by the sinking nature of the pellet.

Sorry for concentrating on the negatives - because all in all, on balance, your proposal is an excellent one and I will certainly be supporting you. An organic feed is something we have been hoping for for ages. Thumbs up.

I too am interested - sinking pellets are not a big issue to me as I will adjust my feeding style (not throw in a handful and let the fish pick at their leisure :D )

You're presuming that you'll get that automatic feeder up and running then are you Les?

:-) Roz, you're cruel, multi-threaded embarrassment for the poor man. He probably hasn't even found his glasses yet... ;-)

KP,

Have you looked into the freight cost? If so what did you come up with?

I'd really like to get some if the freight is reasonable.

Nope. Tell the truth I can't remember where Michael is... but with a decent freight company and a decent deal, it wont be much.
My old man ships cartons round the country, about 10kg for only $6, to capital cities.
So it depends on how much he currently ships, and how much he's going to ship.
Either way, I'll buy a bag even with shipping, just to support the cause, even if continual purchases are unsustainable.

If he is a church friend of AussiePonics then I would think he would be around the South Brisbane area

Thats very reasonable. :D I'm defiantly in for a bag. :D

Mind you anything would be reasonable considering what I paid for goldfish food recently. $30 for 81 grams of the stuff! I'm sure there is gold at the bottom of the tin.

I hate to think what that means I'd be paying for 25kg of it!

That's why they call it gold fish food. But seriously - small food purchases are just a rip off. My goldies seem to be doing fine on the perch pellets - tho the barra ones may suit better.

Can we organise a Coop and have a one-ton pallet delivered to Perth?
