I know carrots will grow fine in gravel. :) I have heard you got'a be careful to keep potatoes out of the light as they press upward; using a cloth or something.

To bad I cant get those grow beds here..

Welcome JJ - so you all got some stands welded I see. Any reason you went for RHS rather than the angle which seems to have become fairly standard for making these types of stands?

VB my machine shop and welder recommended RHS over angle. 60mm thin wall is cheaper and stronger apparently. And imho, looks nicer, tougher, and perhaps gives the impression of being indestructable (over-engineered) yet light.

Oops, didn't see the following :-(

Yeah, its mostly Joel's gear, but i'm a metal work teacher and went with some off cuts at work. Also RHS is just stronger and i find it easier to work with. Once welded, you red oxide the welds and paint. real simple, took me like 3 hours total to construct. Guess im lucky, am able to use the workshop to create lots of better bits, like the outer standpipe instead of drilling holes, i machined slots all the way.

I said i would keep the pictures coming, just never thought i would be posting seeds germinating so soon. The packets they came from said 10-14 days, and these two have popped up at 5!!! Is it normal for the seeds to have germinated so fast, does anyone know???

Not that it matters, as the system is doing something right :)

Jeffery.... download the "Image Resizer" tool and install it .... then you can just select the picture(s) you want to resize, right click and select "medium".....

Post away, no worrying about file size etc....

Another picture, of the Baby beets, that popped into view on Saturday. Is anyone else growing Baby Beets, and if so how are they going.

..also, i scattered some baby carrots and leek seeds, but have seen nothing germinate where everything else has. Anyone growing either of these with success and can tell me any secrets to get them going???
