So tim - would the chloride be harmfull. Is it in the same form as what is in chlorine to kill everything. If it is, then adding some neutraliser when diluting might be the go?? Could always use the pool chlorine tester to see. In fact I have a 20 litre container of hydrochloric acid in my shed - so may check it out sometime.

We have hydrochloric acid in our stomachs too. :-)

So, to use a diving term, all we have to do is 'Feed the fish'??

(for the non divers, 'chunder into the water' normally through your regs)

yes it will disassociate into H- and Cl- but if yoor ph is above 7 then is is there because of a base and the HCL will neutralise the base hence no free Cl-

example, HLC is added to "salt" water pools with chlorinators becasue as the chlorinator works is converts the salt to NaOH and free Cl (which then becomes dissolved in the water.

you add the HCL to bring the ph back and it combines with the NAOH to produce H2O (water) and NaCl (salt)

feel free to tell me i'm talking shit.

except you VB, you'll say it just because. ;)

so the short and uncomplicated answer is that hydrochloric acid is a reasonable option for bringing pH down. Of course the usual precautions are to be used in that pH should be reduced slowly (unless there are no fish in the system yet).

IMO yes.

sorry for the complications, i prefer to give a basis for my reasoning.

any ph adjustment should always be done with dilute reagents. appropriate amounts in 10l bucket loads , then re- measure.

Stu,
Many thanks for taking the time to show me around your farm.
All very interesting.
Magic place you got there. Might have to check it out again in winter - when it's all green.

Cheers, Scott

will try and upload some pics of what we did to the tomatoes today. Went with the theory you can't eat the leaves

Stupid camera usb cable doesn't work, so pics later, sufice to say we had lush growth now we have sticks with fruit lol

As we have had the gb's off line for the [past 2 qweeks trweating these fish, we have had the plants insurvival mode on plain water. We basically will have to cycle up again, it will be fun with about 2000 little silvers in there lol

can't ewait to get some nutes happening though. it was great growth with zero ntrates and I am looing forward to planting put all the holes in the nft
