350 trout growing out to 350 grams will give u about 120 kilos of trout. ie 3kg/ 100lt in 4000lt, giving u 500lt buffer. If u have the air and plenty of hungry neighbours, go for it. Just plant a new bed as nitrates start to rise. Have them preplumbed, sure, but only plant as ur need to remove nitrates kicks in. That way u won't have tons of veges doing so so. Instead u will have what u need removing what they need until fish growth means u need to plant more. (Prolly haven't explained that too well.)
Trout food has been commercially profiled to within an inch of its life. To grow out 120 kg of fish, u won't need much more than 120 kg of food.
Good luck.

nah it's simple, we're just too outside the loop for some language sometimes.
you said "go no further then troutman." which made it sound you were talking to troutman not about him, because it should have been 'than'
But ignore us academics, if ppl picked on my english typos as often as they happen I'd probably stop posting in disgust :-)

hmmm i write d i s g u s t and it makes a smiley disgust, without me surrounding it with colons ( : ) WTF??? that's just annoying

The topic my friends is Trout in Perth. Here is something you might find useful.

"Environmental requirements and tolerances of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Brown trout (Salmo trutta) with special reference to Western Australia: A review"

so Im not holding my breath that winter will ALL be below 18 degrees

Boris, what you will find is that an odd day above 18C wont matter for a few reasons.

firstly they WILL tolerate higher than this for short periods
The amount of heat transfer between ambient and the water will be PROPORTIONAL to the temperature differential. in normal speak this means the higher the difference in temp the quicker the water will warm (this is probably obvious anyway) what i'm getting at is that a large body of water is going to take a while to rise a degree if the ambient is a degree higher than itself.

I had my problems with the water temp at 23C and the ambient at mid 30's............prolly a good 10C differential.

your daily average will be as per this graph http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/ ... 9225.shtml

so your trout will be fine for a couple of months :)

Troutman called in and said g'day yesterday... :) Fayes trout were fine till the water temperatures hit about 23 then they started to suffer a bit, probably because there was a bit of algae in the water and a lack of oxygenation.
