Yeah that'll be it, Out of interest look at the number of ppl born late august to early september, and subtract 9 months. Suprisingly one comes up with December 31/January 1 as a conception date ;-)

Yes but we don't all have a system that rivals the volume required to meet Brisbane's monthly usage

Very exciting ... my Silver Perch fingerlings arrived today(edit: oops! It's past midnight, make that yesterday). I put 61 of them into my fishtank (see photo) with the comets (who were impossible to net! I hope the comets don't eat the SP ), 3 SP were D.O.A. & the rest went into my waterbeds (in theory 36, as I ordered 100).

Any suggestions for when & what to feed them?

I've been feeding the comets veggie flakes & I've ordered some 4.5mm Grobest pellets which should come soon - I'd need to crush them up, but I'm not sure if they'll eat them?

Crushed flake or crushed pellets should work fine. Watch to see that they can get their mouths around whatever you give them.

Any large fish can be assumed to eat any other fish that will fit in its mouth. Be careful!

Pellets are very hard. If you can get a cheap coffee grinder, you can use that to grind up the 4mm pellets to something smaller for the bubbies.

The talk about the trees and other weeds growing in your growbeds reminds me of an idea I was kicking around. Basically it's mixing a few ideologies, all of which I'll be trying separately this spring/summer. I'll start a new thread in discussions about it, but basically use square foot gardening layouts, even using strings as spacers and making the most of your grow space. On top of that add in a little Earthbox and top the whole growbed with a white (or red or blue i suppose) tarp/garbage bags.
Like I said I'll start a new discussion to, er, discuss it... don't want to hijack. :)

They are just north of Newcastle. The guy I dealt with was great! He did a special rush order for me. (Normally they only send out deliveries once/week, but I am going overseas next week & wanted to get them this week.) He said if I had any problems/questions he's more than happy to help. In short, great customer service!

The fingerlings are smaller than I expected (vary from ~20mm to 50mm), but if most of them survive I've got nothing to complain about. They looked pretty happy this morning! :D

Ah yes. Used them last time to order SP for my in-laws dam.

I only need about 20 for my little IBC system so I will ring and ask he will do a small order. Might get a few mussels also.

That's funny, I had the same problem with them. Mine were mostly 20-30mm. Yeah the bloke sounded really helpful over the phone, but he didn't send the 50mm fish I had expected. As our fish arrived on the same day it will be good to compare your SP against my GP.

Hi KEXIV,

Is there a standard for the minimum size of a fingerling? I guess I only expected 50mm cos that's what I'd read that most other members had. If the mortality rate remains low, I'll remain a happy customer. (The only downside was that I had to put an even finer mesh on the pump to disable the "waterslide" for the smaller fishes.)

Good idea. As a scientist I have to point out that there's lots of other variables. A common date of birth is a good start though.

So the AP journey begins :D

The SP will eat goldfish flakes okay, or crush up the pellets to edible size...I used a piece of 4 x 2 and applied downward force to crush the pellets :D

My SP fingerlings were that small, but there wasn't such a large variation as in your pic - I lost 6 (from 100) in the 1st 3 weeks and then they all settled down to "GROW"
